Do the categories need updating?

I have written several hotwife, and MFMM stories in the past year. Posted them in "Loving Wives." I even posted a heads up that it was a hotwife story. Inevitably, i get a bunch of comments from morons complaining about it be a cuckold situation. I don't care about the symantic difference between the words, but why the hell are they reading it if they don't like that content? Maybe "Loving Wives" should be renamed Hotwife or something that more explicitly identifies it as a story where the wife is the focus of the sexual adventure. Hopefully then those nutters would avoid the category. Or are these people unredeemable jerks who will post derogatory comments regardless of content.

Oh, my sweet summer child.

You're absolutely right. Welcome to the Authors' Hangout. Suggestions like yours come... daily? More often than weekly, that's for sure.

I agree and disagree with you.

Yes, Loving Wives probably needs to be redefined, but in the other direction. It is the logical destination for marital drama stories, as there's really not another category attuned to that. However, there are other categories attuned to pretty much everything else that gets put in Loving Wives. After all, Loving Wives is currently just all of the other categories combined, with a wedding ring added, although the wedding ring has become less important, making it even more of a poorly designed category.

The problem is, as much as people like to bitch about Loving Wives, they keep posting there for the engagement of the audience. Narrowing the scope of the category would change the dynamic and, most likely, kill a large portion of the engagement, as you would no longer have two opposing camps battling in the comments.

It's appropriately named and aligns with the description.

The comments and votes need to be more tightly monitored by Admins to prevent abuse.

I don't know that they need to be redefined, but I'd like to see an option for subcategories. For example, under LW, have BTB and RAAC.
Something like that. Tags are valuable as far as they go, but are inconsistently used and free text.

You can always post MFMM in group sex, and hot wife stories can go in EC.
Nothing requires you to put it in LW if you don't like the audience there.

Even dividing the category into cheating (BTB/RAAC) and consensual infidelity (swinging, hotwife, cuck fetish, whatever) would help. One category for all female infidelity fetish is a problem when half the audience is like hell yeah! Love when my wife gets railed by other dudes! and the other half is like I want to kill everyone involved and then myself.

I'd like SF&F to be broken down into "Proper fantasy, you know, the stuff I enjoy reading, and maybe some sci-fi" and "All that other crap".

...sigh...

Some categories were slightly adjusted just a few months ago, mostly minor name changes.

HOWever - requests or suggestions to make big organizational changes fail to consider the enormous catalog of existing material. Who's going to pick through tens of thousands of perfectly good stories to properly slot them into the new pigeonholes? Versus, say, leaving them alone in an archive category just to gather dust, while new stuff gets the revised indexing?

Not going to happen because: 1) it would sort of blow-up the world; and 2) management here doesn't work that way. Yes, change is hard, and some changes are beneficial, but reorg of what's here is unreasonable and virtually impossible to execute.

Even if a change would be helpful, the biggest problem is the legacy classification; there is no way to accurately relabel existing stories.

I think it'd be fine to leave the old stories where they were if they couldn't be batch-moved by tag.
