Do some story categories get more feedback than others?

I have romance stories posted under a different nickname. When they were first posted I received a lot of feedback.

Now I’ve posted in the Loving Wives category and I received zero feedback on my second chapter, even though it was liked well enough to stay within the last pages of the top list.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? Are people less likely to comment on stories that are maybe more risqué or controversial than the basic boy meets girl, and they live happily ever after?

It’s discouraging not to get any comments. How can a writer improve if no one tells him where he erred? I don’t think I’m a bad writer. I’ve had one work published in a small literary magazine and had some complimentary rejections (hey, ya gotta see the silver lining). So I ask you, are story comments on the decline or is it me or is it the genre?

Actually, I've found out that I get way more feedback when my stories border on the controversial. Up until recently, the one category I received the most feedback on was Gay Male. However, I wrote two rather dark stories in the Anal category, and received much more feedback - both good and bad. I also get quite a lot of feedback when I write to First Times.

The least? Erotic Couples (hardly any to speak of), and Loving Wives (very little).

I do think some categories generate more feedback than others. I think as I work through them, I'll find out even more. ;)

Don't be discouraged. Just write what you want so that you are happy. The rest will fall into place.

Statistics

I've put things in some of the smaller catetories (e.g. First time, Toys). There are fewer reads, but the amount of feedback per read seems to be greater.

Always looking to make an equation our of something.

Celebrities stories get few reads and few feedbacks. Mainly because no-one will read your story if they don't like the actress/TV show/ film that you're writing about and even if they do read it, they usually don't e-mail.

Thankless task.

I suspect that if you write under a female pseudonym like 'Ass Ho' you will get plenty of feedback.

I doubt much of it would be constructive, but there you go...

I get more feedback from Novels and Novellas than Fetish although I have more stories in Fetish.

Thanks, for filling me in.

I appreciate all the responses and the encouragement. Sounds like there is a wide variety of experiences when it comes to feedback.

I have another question. Do you think it matters what day of the week you post? I’ve noticed that stories posted on weekends don’t get the initial read as the ones posted on a Monday or a Tuesday. Once the story is off the front page it’s less likely to be seen. Most people must take weekends off from reading and are out doing… whatever.

I think most readers probably come to this site while they're supposed to be working. Get some jollies and be paid for it.

Ergo, post on Monday AM

So, what you're really saying is our stories are contributing to the slowdown of the econony? Maybe I'll put a warning on mine,

"Warning: Reading this during work hours may be hazardous to your job".

How do you do that MG? I've never been able to figure out when my stuff will be posted here.

That would be in a perfect world. I don't think there's any way to know when something will come out here.

jfinn, Since you're here...

Are there going to be more chapters to "Amy's Smile"?

I enjoyed the story very much and have been checking for more. It's an excellent tale. The characters are wonderful.

Feedback

I have fairly limited experience on this, but do know that of my two stories, both with about the same ratings overall, my first (NonConsent) got almost no feedback, and my second (Incest) has gotten I think 10 feedback responses since it went live this morning. I attribute that in part to a suggestion from one of the other authors who suggested putting a note at the end asking for feedback and encouraging voting. I had no note at the end of my first story, which not only got no feedback, but out of 17,000 views in three weeks, has 54 total votes. The second one (with note) has 100 votes out of 5800 views.
