Do people know?

Simple question for my fellow authors. Do people know you write erotic stories? Is it common knowledge like you don't care what people think? Is it a secret no one outside the Internet/your readers know? Is it a secret you share with someone special? Just curious about it.

When I was younger I wrote stuff while I was in high school and shared it with 2/3 girls I knew just to get their opinions, but since then I haven't told anyone. It's a dirty little secret But then in high school my stuff was pretty vanilla. Nowadays it's much more taboo/dark.

Makes sense when you have a spouse that they would know. I find it interesting you have friends that know. I don't have a spouse/significant other and wouldn't want the stuff I write known to people that know me.

Although a few probably know because they stumbled on binders full of stuff I've written on paper since I was younger, or because they saw the clipboard/open binder while I was in the midst of writing but had walked away to take a smoke break Honestly, my mother thinks I'm some kind of sexual deviant Not sure she's wrong.

I was actually just thinking about this a few minutes ago. How weird.

But no, no one I personally know is aware I write erotica. I'm a very private person and though I'm proud of what I write, I don't want to have to explain to people what or why I write and potentially be judged for it. I'm fine with the occasional mean-spirited comments I get because that comes with the turf, but potentially getting them from someone I know and not just behind a screen isn't very appealing.

A few other people know that I write, but think it's just romance. Like I've said before, I'm guessing there are a lot of 'romance' writers on here.
