I've have seen pictures and video of the palace, including the harem quarters, it really is a stunning place. It most certainly wouldn't be an unpleasant home (implications of being a wife, concubine, unmarried sister, mother, or general female servant of an Ottoman Sultan aside).

We went to Topkapi twice - once in the beginning of the trip and once at the end - so the pictures from there are at the beginning and the end of the set.
What's funny is that the sultan ended up abandoning Topkapi for the Dolmabahçe Palace, which is this ghastly Versailles-looking place but with an Asia Minor flavor.
