yep.. if they eat or drink to fast.. they get hiccups.. just like humans..
I've raised several "orphaned" kittens.. they get them.. it's very normal.. but if it doesn't go away by morning.. wouldn't hurt to call the vet for advice
My baby kitty, well she is almost a year. Well, she definitely gets the hiccups and she snores. Not to mention her...well she has gastrointestinal issues... I almost changed her name to BEANO
Yes they do. Kittens, cats, puppies, dogs. Exactly the same way, and reason ,we do. You can stop the hiccups in a pup by holding (craddling like a baby) upside down for about 20 seconds. I'm not sure if that works with a kitten.
With pups, especially those who are unsure of a food source and tend to gobble, it happens quite often. (And then they usually puke. Sorry)
Ah, okay. I feel better now. He's still new to the lapping water out of a bowl deal. He'll get really thirsty and drink really fast, then have hiccups for a few minutes. It makes sense that he'd get them, the way he drinks, but I thought I'd check with you knowledgeable folks before I freaked out. Thanks all!
Yep. It is just the same action as in people. The Diaphram is contracting and retracting. No biggie.
It's funny isn't it?
Oh, did he just eat food? That can cause it easily.
Rarely are hiccups indicitive of a larger disorder, and those things consist of stomach, liver, lung or kidney disorders.. Mind you, this is extreamly rare.
Seriously though, yes, cats get hiccups just like people, and just like people, if they don't go away in a certain amount of time, call a doc.
Rubbing my kitties's bellies seemed to help calm them down and let their breathing relax on its own accord. Just make sure little Owen likes having his tummy rubbed first.
