Do I add tags?

Hi everyone,
I submitted my first story the other day and it's posted, but without any of the tags I intended. I've realised why that happened (user error, I didn't put the tags in correctly. duh! lol)

I've submitted the next few chapters in the story yesterday and they're pending, and when I submitted them I figured out realised the correct way to add tags, so I'm confident they'll be published with the tags.

My question is, is it worth editing the first chapter to add tags? From what I read in the FAQ I have to re-do the submission to do that. Does the chapter disappear at any time? I don't want chapter 1 to vanish while under re-review or something and then have the next chapters post without the first viewable.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Tags can be important, but since it is a chaptered story, readers can figure out the type of content from tags in the following chapters, so it is not a big deal. Definitely not worth resubmitting a story; it is a long process that is rarely worth it.

To tag your first chapter, resubmit the content with no changes, same title plus the word EDIT. Add the tags and a Note to the Editor.

It will take a couple of weeks - DON'T keep checking the submission, or you'll bounce it to the end of the queue if you accidentally pull it back to draft.

With an edit, everything stays the same - scores, comments. The only difference is, the tags will eventually get published. While it's in edit mode, it will show on your Control Panel as a story submission, then one day that notice will disappear, and your tag version will be there.

It's the same process if you want to submit corrections - just load the new, edited copy and submit. The old version stays in place until the edit goes live.

It may not work, but you could very sweetly and politely PM Laurel (@Laurel is her handle). Tell her what you told us. Tell her the tags you meant to use.

Laurel is super super busy - she at least skim reads every submission and it’s just her. So she may not have time to help. But you might be lucky and get her at a slightly less busy time. Worth a try.

FWIW she has fixed minor HTML issues for me without me republishing. But please don’t expect this to be a guarantee. If she doesn’t help, it’s because she is too busy.

Oh, and don’t keep chasing her either. It either happens or not. And it might take a while.

This is what you ought to do, and it will be worthwhile. Once your initial chapter is no longer on the front page for the category, most readers will find it because they searched in the Story Tags. It will take a while for those new, correct tags to appear, but in the long run it will guide readers who are looking for just that sort of story.

Thank you for your thoughts everyone.

I'll resubmit this way ^^
My main concern was chapter 1 being down during the review, but if it stays up there then no harm done. :)

I can't speak for tags, but I did a major revision of the titles of some of my stories and simply re-submitted on with a note to the administrator explaining what I wanted. The change took place a week or two afterwards, but the originals stayed intact during that time, and never disappeared.

Thank you for your thoughts everyone.

Everything stays as was, except for the bit that you change. It's an overwrite in one field only, not a whole new set of data.
