Another female suicide bomber died at an Israeli check point today. So I wondered, if they die a martyr what is there reward?Do they get 17 virgins like the men do?

I don't think this scenario was exactly planned for in the Koran.

I've said it before, I'll say it again, eventually, they will resort to using children...

Kid Soldiers

they ARE using children. many of the hamas and hizbollah training camps recruit children from fanatic muslim families. those kids start training at around the age of 5 for ideological and "military" combat. they attend special school and are basically brain washed.
all over the world rebels use kids in battles, as well as terrorist attacks. you just have to look to cambodia, where the khmer rouge kidnapped children who later had to fight in battle. in africa this is not uncommon too, or in south america. the palestinians arent the only ones and within the palestinans itself (as with any other group mentioned) you have to distinguish strictly between the fanatic ones who cause most of the trouble down there (together with Israels ridiculous Palestinian Policy).

As for women as suicide bombers - nothing uncommon either. Suicide bombers only get the metioned virgins and blessings if they are the family's first suicide bomber - if for example a brother or sister died before getting off a bomb they will just go to "heaven" without all the extra benefits. It takes a radical's mind to understand it.

But it doesn't take a radical's mind to say.....

only as evil as the "justified, official" military attacks by the Israelis

I don't really take sides either as there is plenty of blame to go around. However, the Palestinians don't help their cause by bombing malls and bar mitzvas (sp?). The Israelis appear to be attacking military or terrorist targets, not civilians. The world would look much more favorably on the Palestinian cause if they would shift their policy on this point.

After Sept 11

I do not see where one has much ground on which to condemn Isreal's response.

Especially since Arafat turned down Clinton's plan, the one in which Isreal basically said, "Yes, yes, we agree, take it, take what you want, here, we give it to you." And Arafat's reply was an emphatic, "No!"

Now who do you think is pulling this guy's strings?

Does anyone remember reading about Janissaries? Doesn't this sound pretty similar?

Re: After Sept 11

U.N. Security Council Resolution 242 (Following the Six Day War), 22nd November 1967

1. Affirms that the fulfillment of Charter principles requires the establishment of a just and lasting peace in the Middle East which should include the application of both the following principles:

- Withdrawal of Israeli armed forces from territories occupied in the recent conflict

- Termination of all claims or states of belligerency and respect for and acknowledgement of the sovereignty, territorial intergrity and political independence of every State in the area and their right to live in peace within secure and recognized boundaries free from threats or acts of force.

2. Affirms further the necessity
- for guaranteeing freedom of navigation through international waterways
- for achieving a just settlement of the refugee problem
- for guaranteeing the territorial inviolability and political independence of every State in the area, through measures including the establishment of demilitarized zones.

I am not actively against Israel, I just want to show you that the Palestinians are by no means responsible. (And by the way, don't get on with September 11th, because the Hamas and Hizbollah don't strike outside the immediate area). The U.N. Resoultion (acknowleged by Israel) states the

- Withdrawal of Israeli armed forces from territories occupied in the recent conflict
Still, they are not fully withdrawn from the occupied territories. They STILL have forces in the Lebanon and act like the area belongs to them. May I mention the Shabra and Shatila massacres in Lebanon where Ariel Sharon felt free to kill hundreds of innocent women and children?

- for achieving a just settlement of the refugee problem
yeah, right.... when Israel feels like it they just take a tank and run over some house. Of course they also have to build their settlements directly in Palestinian areas, not on outskirts, no - but directly areas within the West Bank (which Israel claims are actually Palestinian but they would rather like to forget about that at the moment).

The territory proposed to the Palestinians was a fraction of the territory guaranteed to them before. It also had no means of water access and was in a totally arid landstrip with useless soil.

I can understand the Israeli grief about the loss of family members - one of my best friends moved away from Israel because it was too dangerous. But I can also understand the dispair of the Palestinians, who amongst other things, are forbidde to work, are forbidden to leave the Gaza Strip/West Bank and are forbidden to dig for water in the Gaza Strip. The Israelis sure know how to keep them in check.
(By the way, Arafat is rejected as leader by most Palestinians because he had no elections since he was elected in 1996 - I think it was - and rules dictatorlike).

Janissaries, are you talking about the old Ottoman soldiers. Yeah, but Jannissaries were Christian boys who were not only recruited, but Christian parents GAVE there children to the Ottoman government because they knew the children would get the best education the world had to offer at the time. THe children would become amongst the elite class of society. Part of the process was converting these children to Islam. Which seems like the right idea, that having been the government religion up until the empire's fall after world war one.

Recruiting children to bring them up as fanatical warriors for the greater glory of Islam.

This is wrong no matter what your doing it for.

Halo :rose:
The Palestinians attack civilians the Israelis respond by attacing military assets,Israel can give all the territory won or taken in previous wars and there will still not be peace.Peace comes through victory. There will still be fanatics who will want to destroy the Israelis. These "peace" loving Muslims teach hate in there schools all over the Middle East as well as in the US. I doubt the Israelis teach the same subject to their Children. Until middle eastern countries start to restructure their despotic corrupt regeims it will only get worse.I doubt that this change will ever come about.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I have watched this murder and mayhem since the 67 war, when the Israelis defended themselves against attack and again in 73 when they did it again. I admire their tenacity. I doubt that peace will ever come to that region of the world.

Getting back to the topic.

From Slate.com:
Finally, one of the most oft-asked questions in Explainer's inbox since Sept. 11 has been: If male Islamic martyrs receive a reward of 72 virgins in the afterlife, what do female Islamic martyrs receive? (Punch line: a headache.) U.S. News uncovered the answer this week, citing "Israeli counterterror experts": "If a woman is single, her family waits for her up above to be by her side for all eternity. If she's a widow, her dead husband joins her in the afterlife." To which Explainer asks: You have to be a martyr to get that?

From US News & World Report:
We've all heard umpteen times that Islamic terrorists in suicide missions are told they will be rewarded in heaven with 72 virgin brides. But what do radical clerics promise their female counterparts? Not much, say Israeli counterterror experts. If a woman is single, her family waits for her up above to be by her side for all eternity. If she's a widow, her dead husband joins her in the afterlife. "No wonder so few volunteer," quips one U.S. official.

Christian parents GAVE their children to the Ottoman government. They wanted what was best for their children. And besides, the Ottoman government was no different then the other secular governments of Europe in this time period. How is this different then what the western Christian governments were trying to do at that time?
