DNR orders

They took the cpap mask off him this morning, and he was gone within the hour.

I never did make it to the hospital. I was going to go today, since the littles were back in school and while I'm still sick (actually, getting worse grr) oh well, I was going anyway after hubbie left for work this morning. But my mom called to tell me he'd passed. And I had to call the older kids, who didn't make it out yesterday, but were going to go today.

Really am glad it didn't linger on, for my mother's sake. She made a hard, hard decision. I'm really at peace with it, although my only regret, for his sake, was that he didn't get to see his last grandchild born. :(

Thanks again, everyone.

Lost my Dad in 95, if you need a shoulder, PM me. *Hugs*

Somehow..."sorry" just kinda rings kinda hollow. But it's all I have. And I know that you will continue to celebrate his life everyday.

My deepest sympathy to you and yours.:rose:

:rose: Sorry for your loss Selena, remember him as he was at his best, for all the good he did, and all that he taught you that made you who you are. It takes courage to honour such wishes, but you did the right thing- it's what he wanted.

:rose:

Selena, you and your mother are thoroughly good and honourable women.:rose:

I'm so sorry Selena, I wish that you didn't have to go through this.

My husband's family went through this last year with my husband's grandfather. He also had a DNR and everything was on paper and the doctor had all the info.

They shocked his heart twice during surgery (he was given 6 months to live 15 years ago because of his bad heart) even though they weren't supposed to. He got vocal and insist that they remove the feeding tube and iv. His family didn't follow directives so he had to insist. I wish they had, he would have been much less agitated and pissed off. I am just glad that he could speak for himself because everything that he wanted would have been ignored. He passed away peacefully in his sleep two days later.

I guess what I am trying to say is that even though the family may want one thing it is his quality of life and wishes that should be taken into concideration. You and your mother are doing the right thing, hard as it may be. It takes a lot more strength and is harder for you but I am pretty sure that you have it in you! God bless, take deep breaths and hold his hand. I wish there was more that I could do for you.

My deepest condolences Selena ... you honored your father's wishes and I'm sure he was truly greatful for that. It's hard to let go for our own selfish reasons but you both were unselfish and put your dad's wishes first. Just know that he will be watching from above ... watching the birth of his grandchild ... watching them grow up ... and watching over you and your mother. :rose:
