Dixon

Hey Dixon, while this thread's here, could I be so bold to ask you something?

When you get writers block, what do you do?

I don't seem to be able to get back into my story, I don't want to force it, as I think the reader will be able to tell, but I want to be able to get back into it soon.

I'd love any advice anyone can give me.

I've been reading a lot more, and when I do get an idea I write it down rather than let it go, but I'm finding it hard to just sit down right now and just write.

Advice needed.

Okay, some advice.

First: is this a story already in progress? Or a lack of ideas? If already in progress, I would start by reading the entire thing over again, to get you back in the flow of things. There's nothing harder to face than a half-finished story, and if you don't go back to it immediately, my experience is, you never will. I know, I have several would-be masterpieces rotting in "My Documents".

Lack of ideas, well, what can I say. I never have a lack of ideas. All I have to do is lay down and I'll start dreaming up a story. Not an erotic one, mind you, but a story nevertheless.

If it's hard to get started, you might want to change locations. If I'm feeling blocked, I grab my laptop and move somewhere else. No laptop, I highly recommend pen and paper in a nice, quiet place with nobody else around.

Is there anything thing else I can advise you on, Nicole? I'm quite the fledgeling writer, but I'd be happy to help.

I don't believe in writers block. I believe that sometimes writing is just annoying ass work. Take a break, clear your desk, write a letter to a friend. Then start again.

Thanks Pyper :)

Okay the story is in progress, long way in infact, I just went through some bad times there and the story got put on the back burner.

I do write anything down on paper that comes to mind, but lately even that isn't working. I've re read it, changed it, added to it, taken away from it.

I currently have someone close to me looking at it and editing what I've already done, so that may get me back into the swing of things, but I just don't seem to be able to sit down and get back into it.

I've gone as far as writing erotic Emails (not that I don't enjoy that cause I do, especially when you get one back like that) :D

I just need to get back into it. I guess the fact that it's school holidays here in Aus, and my son is around doesn't really help, but I used to sit down at night when he goes to bed and write, and lately I haven't felt like it.

Am I just bored with where the story is going, or is it something more?

God, you sound like my first writing professor. "Kids your age don't get writer's block." I wrote my entire final project about writer's block, metafiction style, just to take a few potshots at him on my way out. :D

I am a noval writer. And, well I have never been where I don't want to write for awaile. I love to write, and can get over 200 000 words easy. So I sorry Nicole, I am yet to face that problem, I will in the future for sure though.
