I just heard the Dixi Chicks version of "Landslide" and I have just a few things I'd like to comment on.

1) Landslide is a depressing song; why is the video sunny and cheerful? Didn't they read the lyrics?

2) Three peice harmony does not lend itself well to that particular song.

3) The cover of "Landslide" that Smashing Pumpkins did was much better.

The Dixie Chicks simply apply their formulae to songs. Its repetitious and quite a money maker but it has almost no musical value.

I have not heard the song but would think the original (Ms. Nicks) and the SP cover would only be insulted by a rendition by Nashville's latest cover band.

Hey!

I like The Dixi Chicks.

Then again.

Nothing wrong with liking the Dixi Chicks; I think they are kind of cute too. I just wish they would give up that music thing...

;)

‘Earl had to die’ is a great Dixie Chicks song.

What would you rather they do?

(why am I worried about the answer?)

Yes, fine, okay, I'll conceed on that point; but didn't have to cover Landslide. It's almost like getting Godsmack to cover Stairway to Heaven; both bands have a few good songs, but that doesn't give them the right to ruin the good songs other people have written.

I don't know; run for office? Join a circus? I'm sure there is a use for them.

Technically, they haven’t ruined the songs of others. It’s still quite possible to listen to your old song, isn’t it? It’s still as good, isn’t it?

Yes. Yes.

Unfortunately, I had to endure listening to that particular sonic dissonance, which means I am now scarred for life. This means, I can sue. :D

Now you're thinking Black_Bird. I'll rub off on you yet.

modest mouse:
"They are a mediocre cover band."

No, they are a terrible cover band. But 'Earl had to die' is a good song.

This group is the Dixie Chicks Lite. The original lineup was much more talented, but not as "Hollywood" looking, ie. mainstream marketable.

You know those country music comercials with the 3 girls singin' stuff like "ready, ready, ready, ready to run.."?

That's them.

I know. I'm great at explaining

Eternity should find them being forced to listen to Buster Poindexter's "Hot Hot Hot" over and over. That would be a very fitting punishment see'ing as how many times I have been forced to listen to "Wide Open Spaces" by the missus.
