Divorce? FYI without comment

In the old days, a Muslim man would divorce his wife by saying "talaq" three times in succession. Her family would then weigh the matter. If the man had cause, she would [so I have been told] usually be put to death. If he did not have cause, there would be a war between the two families. It was not something done on the spur of the moment.

Just what I have heard and read.

It would never work in Western societies.

There's no way lawyers can make money out of it.

If she dies, what's the point of divorce? A lot of effort to end a marriage that would soon end with death.

Sadly true. The lawyers have too much power.

The part about sayong "I divorce you" 3 times is correct, but I've never heard of a woman automatically having to die. She WOULD be a shame to her family, though, and no other man would ever want to marry her, which means that she'd be a burden to her family, since they would have to support her. However, the normal, loving, intelligent families would take their daughter back; only the ones with Honor stuck up their asses like a buttplug would actually murder her to "clean their family's reputation".

It's not a matter of Islam, it's a matter of the family's values and culture and class. As is usually the case.
