We have to talk about liberating minds as well as liberating society.

It is in collectivities that we find reservoirs of hope and optimism.

I don't think we have any alternative other than remaining optimistic. Optimism is an absolute necessity, even if it's only optimism of the will, as Gramsci said, and pessimism of the intellect.

Listen, everyone is entitled to my opinion.

Not only does society suffer from racism and sexism but it also suffers from ageism. Once you reach a certain age you’re not allowed to be adventurous, you’re not allowed to be sexual. I mean, is there a rule? Are you supposed to just die when you're 40?

I am my own experiment. I am my own work of art.

I stand for freedom of expression, doing what you believe in, and going after your dreams.

I think you can be defiant and rebellious and still be strong and positive.

WildViolet, I like your post on “Girls Trip.” There are so few movies about women and even fewer movies showing the interaction of women in a group. My favorite such movie is “Stage Door” (1937). Grace O’Malley was a real female pirate born on the west coast of Ireland c. 1530. She commanded ships with male crews. Throughout history many women have served in or along with the military and maybe more so in times of war. Examples are of women nurses and women in support roles. While not all of these women may have actually been in combat, they often were in danger and close to the front lines. But women have also served directly in combat. One of the major cases of this were the female soldiers of the Soviet Army in World War II. A great example was the Russian female pilots of the 588th Night Bomber Regiment. In total they dropped 23,000 tons of bombs on enemy targets and were called “Nachthexen” or “Night Witches” by the Germans. They flew light outdated biplanes at night, with no radios and no parachutes. As the approached their targets they would cut their engines and glide to the point where they would drop their bombs. The only indication that they were coming was a whooshing sound and then the explosion of the bombs.
