I once rode with strangers (most of whom were smokers, ick) from Corvallis, Oregon, to Lemoore, California -- 700 miles one way -- to pick up a car that my cousin needed moved. The real reason, of course, was that the young woman watching the car at the time had seen pictures of me -- back when I was young and fit and a sailor -- and had talked to me on the phone a couple of times; and she promised me a warm bed to sleep in if I came down. I did, and she did; we spent three days together, fucking again and again, and the only reason I left was that my two week leave was running out.
