Disclaimers

If your readers are adults, they shouldn't need a babysitter or get a vapors about finding varieties of sex on a sex site or not understand the principle of being responsible for what they read and just backing out of something isn't to their taste. If they aren't adults, they have no business being here.

It's amusing to me that people who come to a site like this to read erotic stories would be so fussy about content that they'd need a disclaimer. I see this site as a good place to leave that sort of fussiness checked at the door.

Seems to me that some folk have such precise kinks and fetishes, they don't need disclaimers, they need therapy.

I copped some comments five or six parts in to my long Erotic Horror yarn, when somebody said, "well that took a turn for the worst." Turns out this guy could handle a girl taking it in the ass (chapter 5), but not a guy (chapter 6). What a homophobic jerk, I thought (ok, maybe the father-son scene did have a little to do with it, but hey, some of us have got issues to work through ha ha); so as a special treat and to do his head right in, in the next chapter I wrote the hero getting it in the ass by a big black she-male, just for lols. One or two chapters later, after some straight hetero action, some one else commented, "oh good, you're back on track."

Mate, I thought, I never went off the rails. Don't bloody tell me what to put in my story. Fun bit of audience inter-action, though.

Now, there's the problem, in'nit?
What would normally count as an 'adult, sensible' reaction is almost impossible when flown in the face of what can best be described as 'determined stupidity'.
Such behaviour /reaction is the reason hand tools have warnings on them ('Caution / Warning: This tool gets HOT' on a soldering iron) because "there's nowt so strange as folk."
A warning of 'erotic content' will preclude some twerp complaining that "we weren't told." despite all manner of other indications to the contrary.
The reader cannot say he/she wasn't told.

The reader cannot say he/she wasn't told right when they opened the Web site up and were informed this was an adult site. Everything they complain about encountering after that is a reflection of them being raised to have to have a babysitter holding their hand. I don't play that enabling game.

I usually put a comment right up front about length coz many of my stories are long. Thats more me being nice coz I know some readers here don't like long stories and I don't want to mislead anyone. Aside from that, I think the category the story is in should generally be enough. My response to the occassional ill-mannered troll complaining and abusing (once, it only happened once) was along the lines of "go suck on a dead dogs dick". There was a bit more than that but it seemed to work.

That's the one note I give--for chapter series. I note how many chapters there are, that the work is completed, and a loose estimate for when posting will be finished. I do that to assure the readers they won't be wasting their time starting reading something that is never going to be finished, which happens a lot here at Lit.
