Disappointments

Someone is infiltrating...

members accounts and using them to post spam all over the place. I reported it last time and and this time but everyone needs to get involved with reporting this crap. Please, when you see it, report it.

nakdsub, I have been. I suspect you're right, that legitimate accounts are being stolen.

I don't think so because the join date of the username is the day the spamming starts so these bots are creating a new account to use. In a addition, no old legitimate posts belong to the spamming user, as there would be if the account belonged previously to a prior person.

I agree. I searched for "Villaneuva1" in Lit's member's search and found nothing. That's only one example but I couldn't remember the other name to check.

If you look...

You'll see that under the member's name, it says "experienced," or, "very experienced." As far as I know, you have to post a great number of messages to get that. If you're reading the "Joined" date to the left of the post, that only shows when he joined the discussion. Now there is another one doing the same today. I keep reporting and the post get wiped out, but the next day they're back under a new name.

I'm "Really Experienced" with 116 so those numbers are easily attained by the spambot that typically makes 200-300 posts in a few hours. The Join date is the date you created your profile. The spambots have all been the day of the spamming. nakdsub, you didn't join this discussion 3 years ago, did you?

You don't have to post that many. I'm sure someone else has the numbers, but I think you go to "experienced" around 50 messages, "very experienced" around 100 and it was maybe 500 (?) that gets "Literotica Guru." Most of the spambots I've noticed say "Virgin" and have single-digit or low double-digit posting numbers.

The joined date, as far as I know, is the date you created your forums profile.

I stand corrected...

You're correct. I checked out the latest spammer and found he posted 85 messages in one day to become, "experienced."
Once again, I reported him on several posts.

Ich auch. Also was mistaken. Howbeit, we have to denounce the spammers via PM to Laurel and Manu. They do throw out the spammer, but of course they come back under different handles; rather like other sorts of vermin.

yup!

For the last week or so now, I have reported spamers from numerous posts. I'm wondering if they're getting sick of me yet.

You don't PM laurel about spammers, you use the Report Post function in the lower left hand corner of the post.

Exactly. When there's spam in the Editor's Forum, for example, and someone uses the Report Post function, I receive that report as well. Then I can remove the posts without leaving all the work to Laurel.

Corrected again. I do make it a practice to report all spam, both by hitting the "!" link and letting the Bosses know. If the "!" does it all, great.

I hope they handle spammers by banning IP addresses instead of people with particular handles. You can make up infinitely many handles, but you can get access to only a finite number of IPs.

Yes, Laurel bans IP addresses when necessary.

It's a true disappointment that the mods and the Bosses have to waste their time acting as bouncers, to throw out the spamming gatecrashers.

My ultimate disappointment was having to cease copy editing. Without posting yet another whine, I wish there were more editors available. I feel I left the authors for whom I was copy editing in the lurch, although I did not leave anyone who was about to enter Summer Lovin' with their entry unedited.

So I'm casting about for editors who are capable of accepting work and who have a track record. Of course, many of the best ones are often themselves writers, and would rather spend time on their own work.

If any are free, I'd be pleased to hear from them via PM, so as not to clutter this thread or have them broadcast their identities.

As posting to for the Editors' Forum, it seems to me that many have tried that route without success. So I thought I'd try here.

Well, I'm not the going to be one who says you don't have good instincts in writing stories.

But I also don't think a good story often happens when the writer starts off in the "meander" mode.

Good stories don't often happen whatever the writer does.

picknpwn, was your remark addressed to me? If not, then please let me know to whom you wished to send it, so I might forward it to them.

If to me, I'm not sure what exactly was your reference.

In any case, a brief explanation would save any further correspondence.

Thank you, Estragon for trying to find us new editors!

On to my huge disappointment. I just decided to have a nice cup of tension tamer tea and relax with a good story. I picked one at random from the new list in lesbian sex because hey, that's what I am, a lesbian. Since the tags are at the end of the story, this one being 6 pages long, I had no clue I was about to be thrust (pun intended) into a straight sex scene that denigrated to anal rape.

Please, please, fellow authors give us girls some warning some where of some kind before you ruin our dinner, our mood and any thoughts of sex we may have for the rest of the evening.

And no I did not one bomb it. I left a polite comment suggesting a warning in the authors note. It is more the fault of a system that puts tags at the end of stories instead of the beginning than the authors.

Saxon, you're not alone. Back-tagging has been a constant complaint, especially when other sites use fore-tagging. I've complained about it, and been told "that's tough" by authors on Lit. It's one of the defects on this site that seems to be what the gardeners call a "hardy perennial".

Readers can always scroll ahead to the last page and check the tags before deciding whether to begin a story or not.

They can, but I bet a lot of people don't know that and really, it's counterintuitive. If the tags can be put on a specific page, I don't see why they can't go on the first one. But I guess that's a question for Manu.

Oh, I agree the first page is the best place. But if a regular reader/author really has a problem with story content, looking ahead at the tags is an option for now.
