Mr K and I have been holding onto a bottle of 1996 bordeaux for a while now. I bought nice steaks for dinner and so we thought we'd open it and enjoy.

Corked!

Phooey.

That totally blows.

Sorry for your loss, sugah.

I had saved a bottle of 1985 St. Emillion from my first trip to France for years.

I waited for the perfect occasion, a second anniversary with my gf (now ex-gf).

Same thing, it had totally gone bad.

My condolences!

Oooo you people are quick. I can see I am going to need more caffeine to keep up with you.

But seriously, about the champagne...

LOL, welcome to Lit! There are times I think it should be called Wit-erotica :D

I'm pretty sure Champagne can be held onto as long as wine is.

Of course if I'm wrong, someone will certainly correct me.

Longer. Not sure of the "best by date" but definitely longer than flat wine.

Thanks, and in only 5 minutes :D

In my limited experience; Champagne holds up quite well in proper storage. But unlike many wines good Champagne doesnt seem to improve with age so the benefits of storing it for an extended period are minimal.

Drink up.
