Disapointed

From my limited experience as an amateur scribbler on this site I've found readers like to put authors in a pigeon hole. If you deviate from their perceived ideas of your genre they get antsy. <...>
Generally I get a laugh at negative comments. It's incredible how hot under the collar some readers get over a dodgy little story.
People expect what they expect and nobody will expect the same. I get comments on the same story of too much or too little sex or plot or whatever. My stories flouting category conventions may score low but get many, many reads. I've said before: if I provoke a reader to respond, pro or con, I've done my job.

In group sex, I would say yes, most readers do expect significant, detailed sex.

There are categories where sex-lite does just fine, but that ain't one of 'em.

Yeah, I wonder if this story might have done better in SF/F.

I honestly didn't even think of that. I'll have to go cruise the SF/F category and see what's there. Maybe it would have worked better in SF/F. I guess the Group crowd were looking for more meat, um, so to speak :D
