I was watching a movie yesterday about three guys that find a plane crashed with $4.5 million on board that was from a kidnapping. They take the money, and long story short, two get killed and the third can't spend the money because the serial numbers have been recorded. The cash was all in $100 bills.

So for the past 24 hours I've been obsessed with trying to figure out how to spend the money without getting caught. I don't think it's possible.

Suggestions?

When was the last time a business checked the serial number when you made a purchase? The only thing you can't really do with this money is put it in a bank account. I also wouldn't recommend buying a house or a new car in cash but aside from that you should be just fine.

I'm thinking you need to get it out of the country.

I'd hide it in a car, then ship the car overseas. Then buy things like jewelry in small enough amounts that cash wouldn't raise interest. So now you've gotten rid of the traceable cash.

Then resell the jewelry for local currency and open a bank account to deposit the cash in. That gets your money in the banking system. Then open a brokerage account overseas and buy stock from an international brokerage firm.

Then you can come back to the US and sell the stock as you need the money.

It's not the business, but the business's bank that would alert the feds.

The easiest way is to sell the money to a money launderer. He will give you a negotiated price -- about 10% to 13% I think. But, you have to find a trustworthy in to the launderer. Be careful you aren't robbed and badly hurt.

Second easiest is to travel to a country which doesn't have an extradition treaty with the US and sell the bills to a laundered there for 10% to 15% of face value. Problem with this plan is getting the money out of the country. Be careful you aren't robbed and killed.

Third, sell the money to your dope dealer's boss's boss for whatever you can negotiate . Be careful you aren't robbed and killed.

Fourth spend the money slowly across the US in an unrecognizeable travel pattern. Be careful you aren't caught.

Don't believe the movies. You will not get 50% on the dollar. You will not get above 12% of the face value if things haven't changed. (I never did this just have crossed paths, many years ago with people who might have done this.)

I don't think you'd be in any danger at all as long as you didn't buy a house or something huge in cash. It's not like the Walmart Employees keep track of who was working what register at each and every second to make sure that they know who gave them that hundred dollar bill and even if they did they would have a hell of a time identifying you and beyond that proving that you didn't get it from some guy who bought your computer from a garage sale. Just relax and enjoy life.

Bingo. If you don't have good criminal underworld connections, you'll probably end up getting raped on the percentage.
