I'm having Subway tonight, and I'm not happy about it, but I couldn't decide what to make for dinner. I don't want that to happen to me tomorrow, so I'd like to challenge the whole board to write a poem about your favorite meal.

Please, no penises, pussies, or asses. I really need an idea for what to cook. I have access to a great deal of seafood and the usual meats. I do not have access to exotic ethnic spices or vegetables.

Please help!!!!!!!!!

go over yonder to that strawberry patch;
pick more than a mouthful.
taste for sweetness.
choose full, bursting red ones
with tips beggin' for creamy whipped...
mmm, you know what to dip it in.
have that for dinner
and me for dessert.

;)

(I didn't mention penis, pussy, ass and that was tough.)

Slice of Life

with sweet warm water
bring barren brown yeast
frothing
and bubbling to life

allow
cups
and cups
and cups
of flour
to
make the mixture moist
and ready for
patient plunging
and pushing with palms
until pliable
elastic and smooth

slather hands pan and dough
with hot spiced oil
before you fling the pie high
or optionally apply
other oval making methods

spread red sauce
sparsely
with the back of a spoon
and don't skimp
when sprinkling the cheese

arrange generous and fair
the pepperoni
before putting the pan in a very hot place
for ten, then
finally for five with
no pan for support
bake naked right on the rack
to bring the bottom to brown

pepperoni curled atop molten cheese
signals it's time
to whack into wedges
triangular and neat
there you are
enjoy
eat

Sea bass filet dipped in egg
then coated in ground hazelnuts.
Rinse my hands.
Pan fry in butter and olive oil until crispness forms.
Bake the insides to flaky whiteness.

Steam some asparagus.

Fry polenta with rosemary and lots of mushrooms.

Make a cream sauce with white wine
and dill.

Serve the sauce over the sea bass
if I can wait that long.

With a glass of chardonnay.

An aside:
This is a rare moment for me. I usually agonize for days...weeks...months over my poems. Welcome to my first off-the-cuff poem.

I blame my love of food.

THanks for the thread, karmadog. Come over to Nevada and I'll cook you the meal of a lifetime.

Cordelia

smooth oval shells cracked sharp,
swift added salt and pepper.
elbow grease and wire whisk
make rhythmic music play.

Yolks blend and melt with white,
Froth forms foam
while bread toasts crisp.
Sweet sizzle as the liquid heats
and sets a scrambled mass.

Small firm breasts
Above a glowing ember
The aroma of desire
Draws me to the fire

Round hard potatoes
Surrender to the heat
Anticipation of cream
Fuels a dinner dream

Tart, juicy niblets
Beside the main entree
Silken tassels overflow
Creating a tasteful show

Product of grain toasted
Browns in ecstacy
Butter in healthy smears
Birthing joyous taste bud tears

(I know it's awful. But I really couldn't resist.)

Sure

Eve, would you believe that I once had a date with a girl where we had chocolate covered strawberries (made by a friend who was a pastry chef, complete with a white chocolate mousse dipping sauce) and a fine bottle of champagne on the shores of Lake Michigan? Didn't get any. She dumped me the next day. Besides, I don't think there are any fresh berries available right now.

OT: Mmmm, homemade pizza (drool).

Cordelia: If I could be on the next plane, I would. In the meantime, if I can find some sea bass at a reasonable price, I'm going to try that. But I think asparagus is out of season. You know, I once tried polenta at a home for a recipe I'd never tried. Like a fool, I cut corners and bought canned. Never do that--it's disgusting. Later, I had the real thing at a restaurant a friend of mine owned. Much, much better. The guy was actually from Italy. I miss you, Sal!

guilty pleasure, I can't eat omelets for dinner. I don't know why, but I just can't. Besides, I'm making an omelette for breakfast.

Sure: grilled chicken sounds great, but it's going to rain tonight. You know, I think using a grill is the only method of cooking where I haven't done myself an injury. Hard to believe considering all that flammable stuff just right out in the open.

Keep 'em coming y'all, I gotta eat tomorrow too!

chicken soup

wait 'til the water is boiling hot
then toss a dead chicken into the pot

grind some pepper, fresh by hand
add some salt (unless you like it bland)

garlic and scallions, some celery too
carrots for flavor, then let it stew

cook 'til the meat falls from the bone
invite a friend, don't slurp it alone!

add oodles of noodles, al dente is good
(most cook them longer than a good cook would)

serve fresh bread with thick chewy crust
... best with a lover, or a friend you trust

Tuscan Style Potato Soup

Take some of OT’s chicken soup and strain
About 4 cups of broth will do then put aside
whilst in a pot you pour some water make it hot
Well let it boil add to this four potatoes peeled
Halved too but most important is that only
Waxy ones like Yukon gold or such will do.

In the meantime in a pan heat extra virgin olive oil
just 2 or 3 tablespoons and add a lump of butter
(not too much don’t want vein clutter)

Now take 4 cloves of garlic and cut them into pieces
Not too small or the other subtle flavors fall to garlic

(Do let me regroup: We are not making garlic soup!)

Heat the oil and the butter almost till the pan does
Splutter then the garlic is slipped in get it golden
And then spin with lovely fresh rosemary 3-4 sprigs.

Now chop about a quarter pound prosciutto
Nice And rough and toss it in the pan
With all the other stuff

(The smell Will be intoxicating
You will start anticipating!)

By now potatos should be done so drain them
smoosh them up and heat the chicken broth
stir those smooshed potatos in and let it simmer

How’s your soup now thick or thin?
If too thick a bit more broth, too thin
potato water till it’s right this is the part
Where your daughter will say ewwww
I’m not eating that--but don’t fight

Just ignore her!

Getting there we’re almost done: take
the contents of the pan remove the garlic
With a spoon (so no more blisters Kdog
You loon) dump the rest into the pot with
fresh ground pepper, salt, whatnot, and let
It simmer 15 minutes and now for the final
touch: a quarter cup of grated cheese
Parmigiano-Reggiano is the best of these.
Stir it in and if you’re brave a pinch of nutmeg
adds a flav sooo good and now go essen, ess
eat up with salad and some crisp white wine

Trust me you’ll feel fine.
