This may be a thread so strange that it is destined to go the way of the dinosaur - or worse, the way of my other threads.

Nevertheless, I present a new idea.

A nuthouse has been trapped in some kind of warp- a new reality. Owing to the nature of the patients, they are the only ones in a frame of mind that can cope with the new realities invading their senses, while saner people would be so overwhelmed they would die.

Exiting the now ungaurded asylum, the patients find themselves in a world dominated by their own diseased minds. They have the power to use the new reality to their advantage, yet their minds may yet betray them, and destroy them using the reality.

The reality is the same for everyone, so what happens affects them all, in that should a giraffe suddenly appear in Times Square, everyone would be able to see it.

Think of the scene in The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy in which Ford and Arthur first enter the Heart of Gold spaceship...

Warning - Bizzarre events ahead!

Patient File no. 201

Name: Mike Donovich
Room: 16
Description: 5ft 9in, black hair, brown eyes, medium build.
Disorder(s): Split personality-
believes he has a brother, Jason. Mike is sane exept for this belief, howevever his other persona, Jason, suffers severe psychadelic hallucinations. Jason can handle these hallucinations, however Mike is not as equipped to deal with them and will start screaming as soon as he returns to his own persona.

Comments: While Jason experiences a hallucination, try to keep him in control of Mike's mind as long as possible. Should Mike return to his own persona shortly after a hallucination, he will suffer a minor episode and should be locked down.

Trey can you explain it a little more? Still deciding...

Think about it this way.
You are locked in a nuthouse. Then you begin seeing things that should'nt be. You know, prisms exploding from molecules. Walls walking over each other. Aliens playing poker. A Martini drinking a fish. Anything.
The nurses and guards start screaming and all fall over. You can suddenly escape.
Now you are on the outside world trying to come to terms with everything going nuts. Yet the new dimention has its advantages. When the building you are walking through grows a hundred feet tall and you float off the edge toward an oncoming cheshire cat you can just grab a walrus hopping by and escape to the munchkin lair.
On the flip side, Someone may freak out and you find yourself in a red hallway shining with black radiance while a thousand spiders come charging at you from an Escher style staircase.
Think Escher meets Homer Simpson on Isanity peppers.
Does that help?
I won't be surprised if it doesn't.

Worth a whirl

Patient number 532

Name: Kissen Tel
Room: 30, womens wing.
Description: 5'2 Long blond hair, slim, glasses.
Disorders: Kissen sometimes believes she is Superman with all of his powers, and his weaknesses. Kissen also has OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). Her obsessions are numbers, she has to do everything three times, and she is constantly worried when driving that every bump she drives over means she has run something over. She has this obsession so severly that she stops the car and runs back to search the road behind, looking for the person, dog, whatever. - three times.

Name: Ray Lordus
Age: 28
Height: 6'3"
Build: Fat

Ray wears only black and carriers around a set of shades with him. He believes he is a spy and that everyone who works in the hospital are enemy spies trying to get his secrets. He thinks when he puts his shades on his is undectable and invisible.

Mike Donovitch stumbled through the hallway outside his room. He walked up to the end of the hallway to the wall, trying to clear his mind of the images he had just seen. He reached the wall and turned, then began pacing towards the door at the other end. The locked door. Always locked. He reached it and paused, leaning on the handle. On impulse, he turned again.
Something was different. "Jason?" he whispered. "Jason, is that you?" No reply from his brother. He began cautiously and quietly walking toward the wall and stopped dead. A hole of blackness was opening... but was it really? he began to whimper like a frightened animal. "Jason? Jason please stop! Jason NO!"
But it was no good. As the hole grew wider it began to twist his senses as the hole outgrew the wall. There, riding on the crest of the oncoming wave of blackness was a figure, darker than the blackness itself, visible only as a silhoette. Mike's whimpering became screaming as the figure approached, growing larger and larger, becoming all - enveloping. In it's wake reality twisted - light became dark and darkness took on shapes and sounds, impossible and yet suddenly in existence, disobeying every rule of the perception of Mike's psyche.
Two paces, and yet a league away, the began to laugh, guttural and yet high and cackling. And as Mike covered his ears and collapsed to his knees, the laughter became tangible, taking forms of the creatures of hell. As they finally reached Mike after an eternity trapped within an hour trapped within a second, he fainted.
* * * *
Jason awoke in the hall. The door was open, but everything else was normal.
"Mike" he said softly. Mike did not answer. "Mike!" he said, louder but still gently. He could hear Mike stirring. "Mike you have to hide."
"Why? what happened?"
"Something is wrong Mike. That wasn't, you know, upstairs." He tapped his temple.
"But I don't want to leave, Jason. Only you understand. You keep me strong."
"I will still keep you strong, Mike. But things have changed now. The world is like the visions. Only the hospital is normal now. You have to sleep."
"We can't go out there, Jason! We can't! I'll be...afraid."
"I know Mike. But I have to make it right, for the others. You are normal Mike, I'm not. I am used to it. So you have to stay asleep, unless we're in the hospital."
"Jason! We can't! No Jason!"
"Im sorry Mike," Jason whispered. He wiped a tear away, and pushed Mike down.
Down into the very depths of unconscious mind.
He began walking towards the door.

Name: Jimmy Davis
Age: 20
Discription: Jimmy was an impressionist who lost his mind, now his impressions have taken over. At any given time he believes he is a famous person (i.e. Historical Figures, Actors, ect.).
Doctors have been compleatly unsucessful in bringing Jimmy out of his delusions.

As Jason walked around the hospital he could see signs of some horrendous abnormality. Doctors and nurses lay dead in twisted shapes, cold hands stil clawing at their eyes, mouths open in forever silent screams. Down one hall he saw Dr. Bell, Mike's favourite doctor, dead with a revolver in his hand. At least his death had been less hideous.
So far none of the other patients had emerged from their rooms, but at least some were obviously alive, judging from the sounds of stirring in their rooms.
Somehow Jason had to find out what had happened. He knew what Mike had seen; Someone or something had caused this. A Dark Figure, riding the crest of madness.
The bizzarre was nothing new to Jason. He suffered terrifying visions all the time. But to subject the rest of humanity to this... that was unforgivable. He realised that the rest of humanity was probably dead by now, just like the hospital staff. He shuddered.
Jason realised his new purpose. He had to find out what had happened and why. He had to find out who or what had caused it. Above all, he had to find out if he could reverse it.
First thing to do, he knew, was to get help. He had to try to find others that were alive. Great place to start, he thought. The middle of an asylum. This was going to be a long eternity.

Kissen Tel

OOC: glad you like the name Trey :) wondered if anyone would notice

IC:
Kissen heard the Nurses and Guards screaming and wondered what was going on. She thought that this might be a job for Superman! Reflexivly, Kissen looked around for a phone box to change in, forgetting for the moment that they don't have phone boxes in the private rooms, and spotted one in the corner. Jumping into it, she spun three times quicker than a blink and lept out clothed in her blue and red outfit. Kissen gave a start of surprise at what she'd just done, but then shrugged it off. She was Superman - of course there'd be a phone booth when she needed it.
Walking to the door, Kissen wondered what was going on behind it, and suddenly, she could actually see through it. It was bedlam.

Bursting out of her office (for that is what it was now), she gathered up the guards and nurses in a blanket like a net, wondered briefly how they all managed to fit, and flew out the window with them under her arm.

Flying over the strangely undulating city, Kissen/Superman was searching for a safe place to put these people. Maybe out in the country. Finding a beautiful green field, with picture perfect cows and sheep grazing, Kissen/Superman dropped them off.

Returning back to her office, Kissen/Superman came upon a patch of turbulence. Afraid that she'd hit something as she was flying along, she went back, flying low, searching for the other flying superhero or bird she thought she'd hit. Seeing nothing, she went back into the sky to resume her flight. Something seemed to stop her and she turned back again, sure she didn't search properly the first time. Looking around, still there was nothing. Once more she took to the sky, and once more she had to return to search the ground, 100% positive that she'd hit something.

With a funny sounding pop, her attention was drawn behind her. Lying on the ground was Wonder Woman, and her busted up invisible aeroplane.

OOC: does anyone want to play Wonder Woman?

Ray had been locked in the cell for two days now. "You'll never get my secrets out of me!!" He paced back and forth, looking at the clock on the wall, dinner was late. "I believe I order the filet migneon over 2 hours ago!!! Where is my meal??? Where is my mac and cheese!!!"

Jimmy

Jimmy burst out of his cell and rolled across the hallway. He then proceded to fire a handy rocket launcher at the large purple ape that was menacing the fire hose. "I'll be back," he told the smoking remains and turned and ran off down the hall. Passing a cell he overheard someone telling unknown persons that they would never get his secrets. Jimmy kicked the door in and goose-steped over to the man sitting at a table. "You vill tell us vat ve vant to know," he declared and backhanded the man across the face. He then span in a circle. When he compleated his revolution he said in his best Sean Connrey voice," I've come to get you out of here," Producing a pistol from the inside of his tuxedo, Jimmy shot the guard in the corner and told the spy "Come with me if you want to live."

Kissen Tel

Sweeping Wonder Woman up in her arms, Kissen/Superman took to the skies again. after flying for just a few minutes, she saw the general hospital. Quickly dropping down, everything seemed normal, if a touch hurried. It seemed there'd been an accident somewhere and a busload of school children were being treated. She nodded to herself. Of course.. that is what its always like in hospital emergency rooms. She'd learned that from ER.

Immediatly she'd landed, a doctor and some nurses rushed out with a stretcher and crash-cart, promptly laying Wonder Woman out and firing up the paddles. Ahh thats right she remembered from all the medical dramas she'd seen on tv. Doctors can tell exactly what is wrong without examining the patient.

Pleased with herself, Kissen took off again, and this time arrived without incident back at her "office" at the "Asylum", the daily medical newspaper she worked at when she wasn't out and about rescuing people.
