I've never used one, but craft stores have a kit for this kind of thing. (They don't market it that way, obviously) But it's exactly the same stuff as the kits you get online.

the craft stores here have a kit for making molds of a babys foot. This would work for you just don't use the plaster at the end use a latex they should sell it right next to the kit for the feet. If you go into any good size craft store and ask for help, I would say it was for your hand or something (or not whatever) the staff would be more than willing to give you the info that you need.

I'd start by choosing the material.

If any are "jelly" or a concoction of rubber/silicone/plastic-like stuff (e.g. cyberskin-like materials), I'd stay away from them because there have been lots of reports of people haing problems like a strong burning sensation, likely from the pthalates and other chemicals used to make them. In addition, if you're planning on using it for anal play or share it, be aware that those materials are very porous and can't be sterilized. You must be able to sterilize it or use a condom for anal if you want it for both anal and vaginal - fecal bacteria in/near the vagina is likely to cause a very nasty, difficult to get rid of infection.

IME, vinyl generally is less likely to have a smell, and can be more sanitary (some vinyl toys can be boiled/popped in the dishwasher). Rubber, jelly and mixes can be very smelly for a long time, which is a huge turn-off for some.

This has been discussed multiple times in homemade toys and clone-a-willy threads. IIRC, you want to use an algae-based casting material (as opposed to regular plaster/plaster of paris, which can take too long to set and heat up too much as it does) in a tube or small bucket. Then you need to choose what you want the dildo made out of (acrylic/plastic, latex, silicone, etc.), and follow the instructions for that.

Costume, special effects, mold-making, etc., sites and shops are great sources of information and materials. I'd tell them what I basically wanted to do/make, and ask what they'd recommend and if they had any tips. IME, they're generally all too happy to help novices figure out what they need and how to do it best.

How to Make a Dildo?

I'm sure we've all seen the 'clone-a-willy' kits, but I never liked them very much. There isn't a whole lot of room for creativity, and I'm a DIY guy by nature. So the question posed: how can I manufacture, on my own, a wide variety of sex toys in all shapes and sizes for the entertainment of my SI? I think I figured it out:

1. The shape. You need something to base your sex toy off of. There's plenty of inspiration around you -- Coke bottles, small flower vases, the handle of a large screw-driver, a candle holder, or any number of other phallic symbols. Should you not find an everyday object in the shape of the exotic dildo you want to manufacture -- you kinky bastard -- you can always go the extra mile and shape it yourself. Grab some clay and go to work, or, if you have access, a lathe and a length of wood can yield any shape you care to dream up. When you finish, coat it thoroughly with thick vegetable oil (like Crisco) or Vaseline in preparation for the next step.

2. Casting the mold. Get a container (you can use a 2-liter soda bottle, a half gallon of milk, or even a poster tube, depending on the size of your shape. It just needs to have about 1" clearance all the way around) and cut the top off. Position your shape on the bottom of the container. Melt an equal volume of paraffin wax over the stove, and then slowly pour it into the container, being careful not to disturb your shape. Let this cool for about 12-18 hours.

3. Finishing the mold. Cut the block of wax out of the container, and then use a heated blade to slice through the wax. If you do this right, you should be able to just pull the two halves of the block apart.

4. Casting the dildo. Thoroughly grease the inside of the mold with Vaseline or Crisco and then stick the two halves together. Use rubber bands, rope, some bricks, or c-clamps (go lightly!) to hold them together. Finally, slowly fill the mold with liquid latex -- and here the instructions stop. I don't know where to get my hands on latex or how to get it to the right consistency. I understand that it is frequently used by artists, so I was hoping someone could aid in this vital last step.
