Who's got one?

What kind?

Are you happy with it?

Unhappy?

Any advice would be appreciated.

I have a cheapy Polaroid, it only works good outside since it as no flash.

I have one, a Polaroid Fun Flash...I love it...it came with its own very simple software, was inexpensive (around $100), and it takes great pictures. I think if i was to invest in another one, I would get one with a zoom, mine doesn't have that so you have to be fairly close to get a good picture. Mine has the LCD viewer which is a nice feature, enables you to look at the pic right then and decide if you want to keep it or not. Mine also has just built in memory chips, when I buy the next one I will get one with removable chips, mine only holds about 16 to 18 pics before it has to be downloaded. All in all, I like mine! :)

I do. I imagine many people on the board have one of one sort or another. There are all different kinds for all different needs and budgets.

What kind?

Canon G1

Are you happy with it?
Yes very, except the zoom is broken (it will zoom in and stay zoomed until I shut it off and turn it on again). It is covered under warranty but I have so much fun with it that I haven't sent it in yet.

No - very happy, except for the zoom.

Any advice would be appreciated.
Go to www.DPReview.com for good advice and reviews on digicams of all sorts.

Decide what you want the camera for and what you are willing to pay, then get one. They cost about twice as much as an equivalent film camera, but they are a lot more fun and convenient. Get one with optical zoom, digital zoom only is not that useful, and get one with CompactFlash II memory compatibility, not SmartMedia or Sony memory stick; CF II is the standard that is the best and it will win out in the long run.

Some of my pics were in the Zoo Photos thread, but here is another (downsized and compressed to fit here).

ksss, that sounds like the very first one I bought. The flash makes a world of difference! :)

I should be getting my digital camera here in the next week or so. I ordered one from QVC last week. Can't for the life of me remember what kind it is. I guess it's something new, you can do still pictures (obviously) and up to a 30 minute streaming video. It comes with a few different software applications to do various things. I'm so excited, can't wait until i get it..

I'm sure you will all see what i'm able to do with it, once i get it :D So be prepared;)

Well, I've got a semi-highend Sony Mavica from a few years back, the kind that use the floppy disks. I always know that I can just pop it into a computer wherever I am and it'll be compatible.

Do I like it? Well, I'm a graphic artist, if I didn't like it, I wouldn't have it still, and besides, it's been a workhorse for me. In 2½ years, I've taken over 3500 photo's, and numerous movies with it.

I also have a CHEAPO D-link with no flash, that takes ok pictures in lots of light, but I mostly have that for the kids to use.

There are SO many out there nowadays, that's it's confusing what you should actually buy, so tell us what you want to do with it, and then we can suggest what you might check-out.

Umm are you sure? I think you mean 30 seconds of video; 30 minutes would require almost half a Gigabyte of memory!

My G1 can do video, but the color is way off compared to stills.

There are some decent vidcams that can do stills, but only up to 1 MegaPixel. My Canon can do 3.3 MP, but I often just take shots at 1 MP because that is fine for most non-super serious shots.

I can't complain too much, it was given to me. I have an expensive 35 mm I use for indoor shots, so I really don't need the digital with a flash.

G2? They finally came out with an upgrade to the G1?
Cool! I just went and looked at it on the web; a 4 MP version of the G1, still under $1K (I paid $620 for my G1) with a number of improvements. Nikon had come out with a new camera six months ago that was about the G1's equivalent, but not as compact.

I'm looking into photography as a hobby.

I've been working hard for the last few months, and I've got few expenses, so money's not (Within reason) a problem.

I've never been involved in photography.
I've never owned a camera.
Still, I've always liked looking at pictures.
Maybe it's time to make some of my own.

My girlfriend lives on the other side of the country.
This could be a nice way to show her what my life is like.

I also owe somebody on this Board a picture, though she's never asked.

:)

I have a Minolta Dimage 2300. My mom gave it to me for Christmas & I love it. I have an extra memory card & can take up to 50 pictures. It is very user friendly.

from what i understand the camera i'm getting can take up to 1000 pictures before needing to be "emptied".. Don't quote me on this, as i was watching the demo while on the phone to qvc. :D

I only paid $140. Hopefully it's not a piece of shit.

It sure does say 30 MINUTES, but let's assume that's in the smallest possible format, what maybe 160 x 120 at best?

my Mavica can take 1 minute videos, but that's in 320 x 240 format, with sound.

Nightlight, if you've never owned a camera before, then don't spend an outrageous amount on one now, go for soemthing in the $150-250 range at the very most, there's plenty out there to take nice pics with in that range.

It must be really low resolution to store 30 minutes on 64 MB, at 320x240, 1 minute is usually about 16 MB. At 320x240 64MB would store about 250 seconds. Must be 160x120 which is about a quarter of the size and would still only be 16 minutes worth to be stored in 64 MB - although the comrpession comes in to play.

I can't remember the specs.. like i said i was on the phone waiting to get my order in.. didn't know about the website until just now.. duh.. i'm an airhead sometimes.. :D

Anyway, they showed the video, it looked good. Probably not dvd quality stuff, but i only want it to mess around with. ;) From what i understand you can take clips from different videos and edit them and add font to it. I thought it would be cool for sending my step kids and other relatives little email movies.. like on special occasions and stuff

I just checked on my order, it should be here on or before November 9th. I'll let everyone know how it turns out.

One of the really nice features I like about my camera is that it has a video out port and small little remote control. I can take photos, then show them to anybody who has a video in port (most VCRs have them, and many TVs do too).

The way the LCD panel works is good too; it can be moved to various angles, or shut against the back of the camera to protect it. Also, the LCD is very bright and works well even in bright sunlight.

Yep, TSG. I don't know much about the G1, so I can't tell you the differences. I'm still learning how to use it. It's very fun so far.

Who's got one? Got one, but you can't have it.

What kind? Uh.... the kind that works?

Are you happy with it? Only when it's not hogging the T.V.

Unhappy? Was when it got the last slice of pizza. Bastard.

Any advice would be appreciated. Don't eat crackers in bed.

Fujifilm MX 1700 zoom.
Takes up to 10 pics @ 1024 x 1280 in fine resolution on the smart media card. More at lower resolution and smaller sizes. Has flash and zoom, weighs about 8 oz so easy to stick in a pocket.Came with good software + a copy of MGI Photosuite SE
Works great.
