Anyone know of a not too expensive digital camera that takes good close ups on something as small as a coin?

how close? i well drag out our hp 315 and take a look'

Don't know about the coin thing, but I'm wishing I had a remote shutter for some of the things I've tried to post here. That's one of aaron697's secrets to his great shots. I'm limited by the reach of my arm and flexibility (none) unless I use the self-timer. Trying to synch a cum shot with a camera self timer is a real hoot!! Anyway, consider the remote, whether it's for coins or cum shots.

Borrow from your buddies or be sure to get them to bring them along when you go goofing off so that you can see how you like what theirs have to offer.

Go to www.dpreview.com and look at cameras within your budget, then look at the macro specs and the closeups they provide.

the wife said office depot has the hp 315 on sale for $199 right now.

i took some pic's of a twenty at about fourteen inches on high res
in my kitchen. i was unable to read fine handwriting. however for the money right now today i feel you would be hard pressed to find a better camera.

A photo of currency taken at 2048x1536 res, then scrunched down to 800x354 with just enough JPEG to fit on the board. Camera Canon G1. taken from about 6 inches with the macros lens setting.

Not sure what you consider inexpensive, but I just bought the HP 315 for $199 (Office Depot). You can order lenses and adapters at www.dcprodirect.com/HP. For about $130 bucks you can get a kit that has a telephoto lens, wide angle lens, super close-up lens, adapter mount, UV filter, bag, table top tripod and lens cleaning kit. In my book that's a deal.

Fujifilm MX1700 Zoom. Taken from about six inches away in macro mode.

Negative feedback

I bought a KodakEZ200 today.

It doesn't take close up pictures like that,so don't buy one.
