Did you ever dream about the story you are writing?

I dream about works in progress, and I write stories based on dreams. I usually write out the more dreamy aspects of those stories, but I kept them in Hurricane Twyla and, to some extent, in Watch Me!

Not often, but I recall mentioning here a few weeks ago that I dreamed about a story I was writing, or a dream was the inspiration for writing a story, or something. But for the life of me I can't remember what story it was, or whether it even really happened.

I'm the type that remembers my dreams like once a month. So it doesn't happen often, but it does happen occasionally. And it's usually really nice.

I did last night, well about the central character anyway. It was very vivid (and non-sexual).

Yes, my main series actually started because of a dream I had. It got me to post regularly, leading me to having over 70 stories on here. Dreams kick ass!

Most of my dreams are epic adventures, sexy romps or crazy nightmares. And most of my stories were at one point dreams.

Naps and daydreams quiet my head enough to hear my imagination. I'd been stuck on a next scene for a couple of days; had a nap; thought of a great idea and now I'm researching to make it credible.
As for full-on dreams? Nah - most of those are loaded with angst and guilt

Absolutely. In fact, some of my stories started out as dreams. I had a dream, often multiple times, and then decided it was good enough that I could develop it into a written story.

And my wife is one my editors. In fact my first editor. And more often than not, after reading my story, she tends to be very turned on, and then we end up having sex, usually very hot sex. Sometimes acting out something from the story, or at least talking about the things that happened in the story. And inevitably, that leads to me dreaming about it again..

Once, a year ago. And it was over something benign. The most notable thing about it was the imaging of my FMC. I wasn't disappointed, she was everything I... uh... dreamed of.

Often. That's when I know I'm writing a very powerful character, when she enters my dreams.

A reviewer once commented that a story didn't have a strong linear plot, and that's why: they're more dreamscapes, more about mood than the action.

I don't often -- ever -- dream about works in progress. I wish I did.

I do have a couple things on the backburner that started as dreams. One is a potentially novel-length fantasy story from a pretty intense dream that included a number of world-building details and the beginnings of a whole mythology. When I woke up I rushed to scribble down as many details as I could before I lost them.

A lot of my dreams seem like they'd make good stories until I think them over with waking logic and find they're absolute nonsense. But occasionally I get one that actually makes sense. It's a cool feeling. And it only leaves me slightly concerned that I've subconsciously stolen an idea from something I read as a child and "forgot" about.

If I write late at night, and go to bed tired, a story unfinished. That story still swirls crazily around my subconscious, and yes, those thoughts often develop into dreams... In that state of darkness, the mind slowly returns to a less panicked state, and it allows the thoughts / dreams to find a conclusion, or scenes build. Characters show hidden intent... Stories that develop (For me) in this fashion, often take a different route than first envisaged...
Yes, I write in my sleep... Especially if the story has been fighting me... If I struggled to move past a road block...
A rested mind can be helpful...

Immediately before and after publishing a new story, I often have weird and specific "feedback dreams," where I envision both really positive and really negative written comments, sometimes by Lit people that I know, sometimes by unknown commenters... 😳

I used to be able to lucid dream, but I lost the ability somewhere in my 20s. Ever since I started writing again, i've been trying to get the skill back in order to do exactly this, but so far no luck. Thr most I can say is that a few dreams inspired later stories.
