My grandmother is from the south and that's what she calls it. But it's like when you are sleep, you are aware of what's going on but you can't move. It's like something is holding you down, and you are struggling to move. But once you get enough strength to move it's over. Well that shit just happened to me. As I said my grandmother grew up in the south. And we all know how spiritual they are. She used to pour salt on the floor every night. And said the witch will count all the crystals in the salt therefore she won't have the time to ride your back. Did this eever happen to you? What do you think it is? Cause I'm not really buying that witch story.

its from when you awaken from REM sleep before the paralysis wears off. Its usually from a disruption of your sleep stages. Drugs and being overly tired can do it. It's happened to me.

It mainly happens when I'm going to sleep

The old hag, and it's scary as fuck.

It happened to me a couple of times before. So at first I wasn't panicking. Until I got the thought like I got to ask somebody what this really is. Google it and ask the people on lit. Now this is the part that got scary. I heard a voice in my head (I'm far from crazy) like if you tell anybody I will kill you. And then the pressure got harder, like I was getting chocked. So thats when I was like fuck this, I got to get the fuck up out of this. It is time for me to move. That was the first time it ever played out like that.

Yeah. All the old people call it that, and they are collectively full of shit. It's called sleep paralysis. It's where you hallucinate because your body is still asleep, so your brain is still dreaming, but your eyes are open and you're aware of the surroundings. Your brain shuts off your muscles while you're asleep so you don't have a dream where you're fighting and accidentally sleep-punch your lover in the face. This happens when you're in an in-between stage. I used to do that shit all the time and it's annoying.

Yeah, you can get auditory hallucinations too. It's a full body experience. Like I said, it's annoying.

I've had this happen several times, I think. Your body just goes completely still, and you can't even breathe. It only lasts a few seconds, but it's scary as shit.

I know what it is, but when it's happening, it's really hard to be logical in the moment, because I feel this sense of dread and I'm hearing and sometimes seeing shit and you can't move or do anything about it.

I probably only gotten around 15 hours of sleep in 4 days. I'm tired ass shit too. But I got to get up around 8. So I nines well stay woke now so I won't over sleep. Fuck.

Like Joel Chandler Harris, Zora Neale Hurston collected black fables of the Brer Rabbit kind, and many of her tales involve witch riding.

One of the better horror stories about blacks is NIGGER JEFF by Theodore Dreiser. Stephen King never wrote so well.

Well, the medical answer is sleep paralysis
However the first time it happened to me (I was 16) I saw a shadow before I was even aware that I was paralyzed. This doesn’t “jive” with their explanation of why people have visions during sleep paralysis. And I find it odd also that afterwards the a shadow appeared to me night after night. I barely slept for months because I was afraid to go to sleep. The salt is supposed to protect you from anything evil coming close to you. I really don't know how much I buy into all of that witch stuff but when it happens to you, it's scary as heck.

Yes, many times.

The shrinks, back when I was a teen and my foster parents made me go to one, said it was "night terrors" from being abused when I was younger.

But I never bought that. What I "bought" was the woman living downstairs from us when I was still with my real parents practiced voodoo and a llot of weird shit went down that house.

The "witch rides" became a lot more frequent when I was late teens and early twenties and began studying the occult and fooling around with things I should not have been.

I still get them here and there. I do note stress brings them on, meaning there is something to the medical/psychological aspect, but there's also a case to be made that the witch....knows when you're vulnerable.

So you think its really a demon?

She's called the soucouyant in the Caribbean. She takes off her skin at night at flies into keyholes and cracks in the walls to suck her victim's blood.

Instead of salt, it's spilled rice, and while she's counting the rice you find her discarded skin and rub salt into it so that she can't return to her old form in the morning.

I have good dreams.
Guess it is because I am such a nice person.
Can't wait until tonight.
