The vast majority of cannabis users are not addicted and do not encounter psychotic effects. Willie Nelson, who might the world’s most celebrated weed hound, is 90 years old, still touring, and shows no signs of a decline in mental acuity.

But there is a small percentage of users who are addicted, and there’s an abundance of scientific research establishing the linkage between cannabis and the risk of psychosis. While the causal relationship is not clearly understood, we know the risk factor is notably higher among children and adolescents.

I’d venture to guess that most if not all of us on the PB have used cannabis. Many probably still use it and suffer no ill effects. And I think all of us know that the cannabis products available in stores and dispensaries across the country today have much greater concentrations of THC than the weed that people smoked a couple of decades ago.

I’m not going to waste my time arguing with stoners who are unwilling to acknowledge the research and growing incidence of cannabis induced disorders reported. For those interested however, there’s a ton of scientific material on the web. Here’s one paper I found that’s very readable and comprehensive.
