Did I catch someone?

*sits down with her coffee*

laughing softly, gets out her I am not YDD underwear and bra and puts them on

Well heck.

On the one hand some of those big ole words that YDD uses might come in handy for me. On the other... hell I wouldn't want to be YDD if someone paid me.

Yall want something to really think about... here ye go and I am only typing this out ONE time *copy and paste works and I exercise my right to use it*....

Myself and several others have had many poems commented on and voted on....

The person in my mind that I believe is YDD sort of shot themselves in the foot...

Why you ask...

Simple.

They commented and voted on my poems as their regular I am one of you guys Lit names on about half of my poems.

I made a comment either to this person or about this person and their "normal" postings stopped but oh hell did I get some nasty little tidbits from our resident stalker YDD.

No No wait there is more....

I had a new poem post in the last day or so... it was not touched by YDD or the person that I believe is YDD.... UNTIL I came back into the threads about YDD again.

Last night a very good friend of mine had a slew of their peoms tanked. And yes I mean tanked. When I asked this friend hey did BLANK post on your poems they said no... however... YDD did...

Now boys and girls, children of all ages.... lets go through alittle bit of what Lit does on voting

You can only vote once on a story... wanna know why?
Because they load your IP address with each vote. They know that you voted a 2 on sammysue's story and a 5 on mindyjoe's story.

That's how their little program works when they go in and weed out the votes, they can set it to remove multiple votes from the same IP addy.

Now our resident stalker knows the same thing that I just told you, hence the reason why this person can only tank you under their regular name or under their YDD name.

YDD only has one poem up and it is completely different from any other poem under the regular name?

Why you ask? Heck glad ya did.

Because any of us that read any of the poems for any lenght of time can tell you who a poem was written by because we know each other's styles. So they would have had to post something that is COMPLETELY not like them in order for no one to connect the dots.

But....
ya done screwed up.

Ya see....
your PM emails as YDD and as your regular name give you away. They are done in the same manner the same form with the same tone of voice.

I do have to tip my hat to you though. You have led many on a marry chase all these weeks.

As soon as it all clicked... I began to laugh... tsk tsk for being so naughty you really need a spanking and a Mistress.... should I make sure that all of the pronouns that I use to describe you are lower case.

I believe the phrase here I am looking for is... gotcha.

YDD is fucked

Oh my, you are really fucked now, YDD.

Cuz now there are three of us sniffing your TROLLop trail--Larry (mismused), Curly (Elizabetht), and Moe (me).

Give it up. Repent. Maybe we will forgive you.

words on feeling persecuted and conspired against.

Those feelings you feel and smells you smell and voices you hear are signs of dangerous psychoses. There are medications that can help.

1. whats a YDD I ( I swear I tried to read the whole thread but my head started to hurt.)

2. If you can't vote twice from the same IP address does that mean if I use the at home computer to vote on stories or poetry that the Mrs. Cant vote on the same story/poem?

3. What's going on? (in plain english without a whole lot of rigamaroll and such. )

Short version since I haven't had any coffee....

YDD is a um person that normally posts under another name here in Lit. In order to protect their rating and their stories and poetry they created another name so that they could come through like a mother superior nun school teacher and tell a slew of poeple how badly they such.

When you vote, post, etc your IP is logged so that if something happens they have a way of tracing you. It is fairly simple, not illegal, and many sites that allow public posting of comments can and will do that so that if something gets out of control they can simply block that persons IP addy from further issues. (not saying Lit would just what I have been a party to in the past) In order to keep someone from voting a zillion 5s on their own story Manu has all this wonderful stuff set up that only allows one vote from one IP addy. If you want to test the theory go ahead and vote once on your story then have the Mrs do it. It may post now but anyone and everyone that was part of the earthday thread can tell you that stepping in owl shit will have you on your bottom as fast as they will take down the extra votes.

Another issue is there is/was a discrepency about whether or not a person had to leave a public comment in order to vote. People are saying no but according to the way that the FAQ can be read it says that if you want to vote you have to leave public comments.

Hope this helps.

As long as you log in EACH under your own Lit ID you will be able to vote, it is your Lit ID that is registered, not your computer. You should be able to use any computer anywhere to log in. I use computers in two different countries and have no problems logging in or voting.

Actually, I had heard that erasing duplicate votes were based on cookies. I don't think the ID thing will work because a person could make multiple IDs to bomb stories with, so I am fairly certain it is done another way.

As far as the voting and public comments go.... You can leave a public comment without voting, and you can vote without leaving a public comment. (I know, because I have done it.)

It's obvious that YDD, (aka, Ya Dirty Dog) has been using an extra ID. It's sad but some people are desperate for reasons unknown.

You are right, each individual ID is registered as a unique 'cookie' so multiple votes can be eliminated. You can set up 100 Lit ID's on the same computer, each would have it's own unique cookie, to Lit, they look like 100 different people.

That is why Renza and Destine can use one computer, as long as they log in under their individual ID, both can vote on the same story/poem.

I hate to contradict you, Neon, but it's done by IP - not cookies. My husband has is own machine, but because we share the same internet connection (through a LAN - Local Area Network), we share the same IP. He can't vote on the same story that I have already voted on. He's tried to do that before. We used to have our own, unique, connections (hence IP's) and we could both vote on the same story then.

IP logging is very common practice, and it's the way most sites (operating a similar function to Lit) deal with multiple votes/spammers/flamers and so on.

ok I was only wondering about the vote thing because if I read a story that's really good I usually pass the info onto the mrs and anyone else who I think might be interested and incidently I don't vote on my own stories or hers mine because what would be the point and hers because if it's not a 5 I'm certainly not going to be the one to say so and if it is a five I'm never sure if I'm totally biased.

I'm sorry someone seems to be going through so much to make sure there tops seems rather pathetic actually

Well, I'm happy to be wrong.

As you know, I post stories under different names, to switch between names I clear cookies and log in with the alternate name, they both use the same IP. When I'm in my other abode, I can log in with either of my Lit names, post stories, vote, with a different IP altogether. And use a different computer.

Bemused - now you have me wondering if I know what an IP is (Internet Provider).

IP = Internet Protocol (8 - 14 (ish) digit number, something like this: 123.003.582.01. Electronic signature, in other words).

You're thinking of ISP = Internet Service Provider.

;)

Lou

Edited to add: That is a completely made up IP, it's not mine. :p

So how can I log in when in my other abode and on another machine.?

Um... because you can!?

There's nothing stopping anyone using another machine and logging in with their usual ID. That's how one person could, theoretically cast multiple votes. But, not many people, surely, can have access to more than one machine, each with different IP's.

Lou

Right.

Anyone still reading this thread, please ignore everything I said up until right (above). :D

(It's clear to me that YDD runs an Internet cafe. Edited to add: I know nothing of YDD and this comment is made in a lighthearted vein - a joke)

Wait if your computer is on a network isn't the IP like one digit different than the next computer on the network? (I should have paid more attentition when my brother in law was saying but I blanked out after his long unabridged anthology of the star wars movies from conception to the big screen  )

(or uses a dial-up or other connection offering a dynamic IP)

Few ISPs offer stable IP addresses unless you are going into business and want to run a website off of it, and they cost extra money. So, at least on the order of every few weeks (for cable modems), almost everyone's IP address changes. It's for every logon in the case of dial-up users; they are given a new or recycled IP address for every connection.

For the record: That is Elizabetht's personal point of view, which does not make it so.

Lizzie, please note that I'm not attacking you, only saying that I think you got this wrong. So I'm posting another point of view: Mine. Just as true and valid as yours. :rose:

YDD is someone who, for a while now, have read and posted a comment om almost every poem that was posted. I don't know if YDD also did the same to stories, since I don't read that many stories, but it seems that a comment and vote on a story triggered part of this. Most of those comments were very friendly (although prone to pointing out spelling errors) and helpful, but delivered with a slightly odd style and wit. But I swear that I have never seen a post by YDD that can be called intentionally disparaging. And I have read well over a hundred of those on poems this spring.

It is very possible that YDD is another Lit member posting under a different name, so that he or she can be honest without getting flamed and revenge trolled by over sensitive auhors and poets.

Given the reaction seen, and the which hunt/crusade/jihad launched here, I don't blame him/her. :(

From what I can tell, the system used by Lit to track your votes is primarily using your IP number, but they cross-reference it with cookies in order to detact fraudulent votes.

If you vote from IP#1 using usernameA and then login usernameA from another computer with IP#2, they will know that all votes prior or subsequently cast from that IP address #2, no matter under which username, can be from the same person and, even if they appear to count, they will be eliminated in Lit's periodical fraudulent votes clensing. - This is speculation, of course, but it's what makes more sense.

As for the votes vs. public comments issue, the only thing the F.A.Q. says is that you can't comment without rating the submission (which is obvious  ). The only doubt is if that thermometer rating can in any circunstance have any influence at all in the classic votes, but experience clearly shows that no, it does not. The two systems are independent. We're still waiting for Manu's word on this, though.

And everything Lin said. :rose:

Ah, good to see you took care of that already. I was about to say the same thing & am getting tired of saying it. (I wish I could just leave these threads alone, but it really bothers me  )
