Did anyone else get a little irritated at all those tributes to George?

Sure he was an icon and yes he was a great guitarist and a man of peace, but...

Last night on UK TV the news programs had overly long tributes to him. There were special programmes put together which knocked the usual one off the schedule. And at one stage last night (Fri) there was hardly a channel I switched into that didn't have him on screen.

I'll miss him as much as the next person, his music is my music but I think George would have been more than a little embarrassed at the excess of cover his demise was given.

:(

Well said!

well Said P_P_Man! I wasn't much of a beatles fan but I loved some of George's later solo works. Some of those were inspired! And yes, I think George is up there in the etheral mist making faces at some of the tributes being laid at his feet. He was a part of the fabric of our life and we are better for having the privilege of sharing his musical talent but I agree that he would be asking what in the hell is all this fuss about.

Just some thoughts from a fan. Sweet dreams George and thanks for the great music.

Phantom.

George Harrison

I've always felt that as far as the Beatles go, he was the least talented of the foursome. (i got my mind set on you) That says it all. That band was all Paul and John. And personaly Paul was the best member of the bunch. George was definetly the guy behind Paul and John. He basically was the fourth in the pecking order of the band. Even Ringo superceded him. I mean if I see Ringo I think Beatles, I see George I think.... the guy behind Paul and John. I love the Beatles and think they are one of the greatest bands of all time. I grew up on that stuff, (thanks dad). But as far as I am concerencer, Yes he was one of the Beatles, but he was definelty the guy and the background compared to the other three.

Ok, while in Song writing, he may not have done as much of the popular works, he did have a few gems (Taxman, Here Comes the Sun, etc) and was called the most talented Musically of the Beatles. He was known as the Quiet Beatle, but that did not stop him from bringing the music of India into mainstream culture to an extent. His work on Norwegian Wood, and his work for the people of Bangladesh will always be remembered. He was one of the masterminds behind the ground breaking Benefit concerts that raised 10 million for the starving people of Bangladesh. He played the guitar lines on some of their most acclaimed tracks, and he learned the sitar, mastered it, and won praise for it. Along with all of his work with the Beatles, he also won acclaim with his solo work. While I don't normally endorse this saying, "Speak not ill of the dead." (In this case, you don't seem to realize what your talking about)

I agree, George and John are probably doing some serious jammin' right about now! The media coverage is like circus sideshows competing for your eye. :D

George is worthy of the respect:-
For his songs
For the invention of the fund raising rock event
For his contribution to the UK film industry- including his entire fortune at one stage.
For his contribution to club level motor sport.
And mostly for his unpretentious friendliness to thousands upon thousands of people who he met while he was calmly going about all the above activities.
Be seeing you George!

P.P. Man. You would have loved the DJ that I was listening to today. Tom Lykis (www.blowmeuptom.com) dragged big time and told the truth about George Harrison. Granted, he was a member of probably the most popular groups of the 60's, but let's be honest here. He was no musical genius. In fact, as pointed out on the Tom Lykis Show, his greatest hit of 1971 was plagurized from another song. Needless to say, he lost the law suit against him for that song and pretty much everything that he made off of it.

it never ceases to amaze me

what people will take the time to complane about. regularly schedualed programming being intrrupted? jesus fucking christ!! read a book dude.

we have it way too easy in the 21 century.

bad p_p_man i think he deserved every bit of airtime that he got and more ... he was a great singer/song writer/guitarist and was often called the back bone of the beatles ... the best band ever

he also died before his time only 57 i think he deserved all the tributes he got

George was the spiritual leader of the Beatles.......and more responsible for the Sgt. Pepper album then any. He was more happy away from the limelight.

Yes, I was annoyed. But people need to mourn, so I ignored it.

I was more annoyed at everyone acting like they knew him personally.

Music has a way of touching us like nothing else, but... the music had no impact on me. I'd tend to be much more upset over the death of someone who had been greatly impacting the world in a neccesary way up until the moment of their death. I don't enjoy being forced to mourn over someone.

I don't know. Maybe I'm just a bitch. But I also view death differently than others. Death is rest, peace, and contemplation. I don't fear it, but of course I'm pagan so that helps. If someone truly had an impact on the world, how can we mourn their death? For they leave their legacy behind, and move on.

If the departed appeared before me I would most likely give him a pat on the back and say "have fun next time around, fella"
