count yourself lucky that you don't have to endure dial for long... my husband and i simply can't aford cable internet right now... sucks.. but it does teach you to be happy with what you have.

what i find is when you get used to cable you really notice the difference when you go back to using dial up

I was okay, but it was really scary. It was one of those lamps that you clip to your headboard, and I was leaning in close to it reading a book. The lightbulb flickered and went out and then exploded! A piece of glass hit me right below the eye, but only left a little mark.

Hell, I know all about the car blowing up... lol... as a matter of fact, the car's in the shop right now...

I can relate to getting used to the cable modem. My husband and I have several computer, and they're networked together so that we can both be online at the same time, even with the dial up.... and my moniter went curplunk, curpluee a few months ago... sucked big time! I was having major Sims withdrawals!! ~*lol*~

woohoo got my cable fixed well kinda actually ... the cable wasn't actually broken the guy plugged it in and it worked even though there had been a miny explosion with it and a huge smell of burning (i hadn't plugged it in because i didnt want to get a shock)

he was surprised it still worked

but i got him to change the set top box anyway because i didn't want it to do it again when everyone was out and end up burning the house down

pyper if that happened to me i don't think i could ever sleep with a reading light again glad you were ok

I've had trouble with my cable now and then; the first thing they tell you to do is unplug the power supply for one minute while the computer is off, plug it back in and boot up....it lets the modem reset to default and I dunno gives it another chance.

There is usually a reset button too.....if all the lights arent activated try resettting if it happens again.

The cat hair probably didnt do it, but these things can run hot....it may have overheated. Keep it free and clear of obstructions, so it runs as cool as possible.

The heat is why the cat likes it, and the cat blocking air flow probably caused it to overheat and shut down.

yeah i know about reseting it i have to resest it everytime i use it in a different computer so it can look for a new mac address on the network card

but you might be right about it overheating although had no trouble with the one downstairs oh well have a new one now anyway :)
