'Evening all.

DGO, you're so good to de-stretch. I can't believe YOU have sigs off.

I didn't get to the beets tonight and when I looked at them the greens are very wilted so out they'll go. I see Rachel Ray pushing lots of greens and I'll try something soon.

It dawned on me what you were talking about. Sase had said something about punkins, and I had no idea what she was talking about until your comment.

I love greens. I usually cook turnip greens, mustard greens and spinach together. (I add the spinach when the others are done.) On the television shows, they barely cook the greens. In my culture, we boil them until they are really tender. I also like kale. Greens were something I grew up on. We must have had them every week and still I like them. I don't cook them nearly as often as I used to because it's hard to cook just a little.

I'm going to have to learn a bit more about them. I keep hearing good stuff but just because something is healthy doesn't mean I want to know about it! lol

No, I don't, but I've never tried to make it taste better either -- like adding lemon or whatever. I'm a lazy cook at times.

My great-grandmother cooked spinach once when she was here. After that we would only eat it like that. She cooked bacon in a skillet. When that was crisp, she took it out and cooked onions until they were almost done. Then she added the spinach, cooked it without a top for about five minutes before taking it off the heat and covering it. There was never any leftover spinach when I was growing up. It didn't matter how much was cooked. Now I don't use the bacon, but I cook it basically the same. And I cook it every week!

Bacon...proof God exists. I will try that with turkey bacon - maybe. I wish I lived before all the food terrorists showed up.

I don't like turkey bacon.........if it ain't from a pig, it ain't bacon! I wonder what the people at the meat counter would say if I went to buy 1 slice of bacon? That might be my Christmas present to myself. It's not my favorite brand, but I don't think they'd like to have me tear open a package and take one slice out.

I know, I know, it's not bacon but it's one 'fake out' I can tolerate. There's so little fat I'd probably have to add it to make the dish properly.

I'll get a pound and send you half -- how's that?;)

Oh, that's too much, but I'll take it. :D

OK, woman, do I need to put my shoulder in a sling to protect my rotator cuff to open the email? I'm taking no chances tonight.

How are you? I had the most delicious roasted beets tonight -- scrumptious.

No, this one is safe. Sorta.

I have beets coming with my order tomorrow. Someone mentioned them to me and that made me want them.

Did you know...

... that today is National Metric Day? On the 10th day of the 10th month, celebrate the metric system. The metric system has been adopted by most major countries. The United States is one of only three countries which do no use the metric system; the others are Liberia and Burma.

Happy Birthday to......

ahhhh, that's cute!

Enjoying the Greens conversation. The spinach recipes sounds wonderful. I seem to get most of my leafy greens from various lettuces every night. But, I am tempted by the spinach cooked in bacon fat.

DON'T! It's addictive. I'm not much for lettuce these days, but I like other green leafy vegetables.
