I did my part today. Can't say that I enjoyed it. I never will enjoy working out. I've got to make some changes in my diet and exercise while I still have a little bit of control left.

Have begun searching the net for some homeopathic remedies for these darned hot flashes. Interesting stuff out there.

Good evening to all the un-threaders.

Good evening to all the un-threaders.

I was just getting ready to PM you!

I'm already getting sleepy. A good workout is supposed to help with sleeping too. We'll see.

Good night unthreaders.

This probably varies for different folks.

A good workout does wonders for me. But only if several hours prior to hitting the bed. When I workout, it tends to be pretty intense. And I stay wound up for quite awhile. After several hours, I find myself reaching a special point of relaxing that can be nearly trance like and sleep comes easily. But if I try to get home, hop in the shower and got to bed, I find myself tossing and turning.

I also find that the more I work out or the more intense my workouts, the less hungry I become. So not only am I burning the calories, but my intake becomes less!

Welcome to Lit and to the Unthread Mary!

I wish I could agree with you, but I've never worked out in my life. Now that I need to, my knees aren't cooperating. I'm not going to let that keep me from doing something. I'm going back to Richard Simmons! I discovered he has a program for people who can't stand. I'm going to get that one as well as the Sweatin' to the Oldies DVD. I had them for the VCR but I guess I donated them to the book fair.

I'm not an Elvis fan and have never been one, but I can't deny those of you who are.

I'm doing pretty good. It's raining so I can't go out and walk and after my fitness center experience yesterday, my sister suggested I wait until someone can go with me to make sure I don't kill myself or the equipment. I'll just have to be satisfied with walking the halls several times. YUCK!

How's everything with you?

I am doing very well, thank. I have to admit that I am a fan of the king. However, I am also a Classical Music junkie.....go figure.

If you want excersise, come on out West. I'll give you a power saw and you can help me get all of the trees out that blew over in last weekend's wind storm. Been cutting for three days and have about a week to go.

Hey, but life is good.:)

You are brave to trust me with a power saw!

Thank you for the welcome!

I'm sure a wise woman like youself already knows all this, but justin case...

Be very careful with your knees. They are one of the areas, unlike most muscle groups where pain and discomfort is BAD. Not only can you do more damage trying to exercise through the pain, you can easily do permanent damage that will only make things worse.

Look for low impact exercises. If you have access to a pool (nighborhood, YMCA or local gym), water aerobics are great low impact exercises. You might find that strengthening the muscles around the problem kness makes them stronger and reduces any discomfort you feel.

As with all things, start slow and consulting your doctor is always a good idea.

Good luck!

I have arthritis that was compounded by a stupid injury a couple of years ago. I was packing to move and kicked what I thought was an empty box aside. The box was packed with books!

I had an MRI and saw an orthopedic surgeon. He looked at me and smiled.... "No knee replacement for you! Anyone who can walk into the office without a cane or pain has to wait." Plus, you're too young. I asked for a scooter or wheelchair. He actually laughed at that. He was right. With rest and the exercises my right knee is as good as my left knee. (that's not saying much though) I only use my cane when I take my walks in the park or I go someplace and don't know how much walking I have to do. I can easily walk five or six blocks without it or pain. I started by walking to the nearby mailbox. Baby steps.

That's why I decided to go back to Richard Simmons. There's a lot there that I can't do, but the warm-up and cool-down routines are low impact.

BTW, wise and DGO aren't usually found in the same sentence!
