Like 6" of snow, on top of a couple of inches of sleet from the night before.

I used to hate that crap.........now I don't mind. Of course I don't have to go to work in it either. I have two more years that I can return to work at my same salary. Winter is keeping me home. I wonder if I could work only on good days?

*nodding* Silly me thinking they'd actually take faculty and staff safety into account when making decisions.

That's why you were given a brain. One day when the forecast was bad and we could see the weather deteriorating, I told my principal that I wouldn't be in the next day if the weather was bad. The idiot had the nerve to say that the district might not close. I told her that I made my own rules and that I was too old to skate. (She was new and didn't know me......of course it didn't take her long to hate my guts.)

WEll you know what you can do and what you can't. But you have the power to do what ever you want.
True, but if I return it will be with a principal that I like and respect. I would want to complete the year.

WEll then the ball is in your court and you will have to do what ever you think is right.

Yeah, administrators don't like people who use their own brains around here either.

That's true. Principals (and teachers) either loved me or hated my guts. My problem is that no principal can intimidate me. I'm way too outspoken. One principal told me that he would hate to write me up since I was leaving that building. I told him that I'd been written up by better. Of course he wrote me up for insubordination! Just something else to add to the file.

It's because you know your own worth, and so many people in the so-called "helping professions" don't. I don't quite have the level of nerve you do, but I stopped being intimidated by people around here a while ago.

I was like that from the beginning. My second year teaching I refused to attend a conference with the principal and an aide. I told him that she was wrong, I didn't cuss her out though I would ASAP and I had no intention of wasting my time. He laughed.

The next year the same principal wrote on my evaluation that I was 'dictatorial'. I laughed and refused to sign even though I agreed. He asked me to sign and say that I didn't agree with the evaluation because they were due within the hour. I refused. He reminded me that I would be visited by supervisors the next year. "Well dearie," I said. "When they visit me, they'll be in your building." In five minutes I had a new evaluation.

Eventually we both transferred and he eventually called me to see if I wanted a position at his new school.

It's 47 here at 7:50am so I'm not going to complain. It could be a lot worse.
