When something happens in your life, are you more apt to think of it as "luck" (good OR bad), or that it was "meant to happen"? Do you believe that anything/everything in your life is pre-determined, or just chance?

I think it's a combination of both. I don't quite believe in predestination; I think it's more of whether or not we take advantages of the opportunities and decisions that face us.

However, I'm getting more convinced as I'm getting older that the people in my life now were meant to be there, and that certain things are waiting "out there" for me to take advantage of.

Clear as mud?

I believe that we control our own destiny, we make the decisions that shape our life. Having said that when it comes to 'luck' I'd like to think that Karma has something to do with it.

Only the Creator knows what our lives will be, and it is up to us to work it out. and do the best we can.

Luck is what you make of it, whether good or bad. It is also how you decipher it.

I'm a complete fatalist, everything from getting struck by lightning to sneezing is Meant to happen all as part of some incredibly complex play that we could not begin to grasp even the most obvious elements of, let alone the intricacies.

you tell me

I have a sign over my desk that reads "Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity".

I personally think that we draw those circumstances and people in to our lives that offer us an opportunity to grow and develop as human beings... Those situations/people bring into to our lives those issues that we need to work on, deal with and perhaps in growth, put behind us...

In retrospect, I am the mistress of my own destruction or construction... the choice is mine... I cannot think of a single person, in my life, past or present, that I have not learned something from... what I do with that knowledge is up to me...

As far as Karma goes, I try to treat others the way I want to be treated, respect differing opinions, and do not harm...

I do believe in the Universal Law of Retribution... what I dish out comes back to me... and then some....

Good sign! I think that life is random in its very nature. I do believe, as I suspect most professional gamblers do, that its not the randomness that counts its the number of chances you eliminate that is the name of the game. All of which makes me feel better until a black cat crosses my path and then all bets are off.

I believe that each event or person that crosses the pathway of our lives is there for a reason. We may never know what it is but each thing leaves an imprint on our lives and helps to shape us into the person we ultimately become. This is true of good and bad things.

I'm no psychologist, but research in this area is pretty clear: people usually take credit for the good things that happen in their lives and blame others or 'fate' or 'luck' for the bad things that happen.

But when we talk about others, the opposite is true: their good things are the result of others' help (or fate or luck), and the bad stuff is all their own doing.

As for me, if it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have no luck at all....

i believe lisa and i meeting was meant to be ... there was just so many things that needed to happen for us to meet it was just so lucky it couldnt be just chance

especially when we're so unbelieveabley right for eachother :)

I belive everything that is supose to happen in our lives is planed out in the bigining.

it's like a race... all the markers are there. we must pass each one. but how and when we get there is up to us.
Nothing happens by chance.

that's why I'd not change anything that has happened in my life good or bad. it was all ment to happen and all builds up who and what I am today.

I believe that when we are created there is a special 'plan' (for lack of a better word) for each of us... We have our own free will to do as we wish, but no matter what we choose we will end up back on the path chosen for us, whether it be via the easy way or the hard way.

Hey! I like that explanation! I think that's the way I feel too....I just wouldn't have explained it so well. :D
