Yeah I know it's been done before, but not for a while and it's always interesting.

The premise: Each week a guest, called a "castaway" during the program, is asked to choose eight pieces of music, a book and a luxury item that they would take if they were to be cast away on a desert island.

Go on then! Tell me.

I'm not really into music and prefer peace and quiet. Can I trade my music picks for some extra luxury items?

only eight songs? i'd rather just chug sea water until i die. that isn't anywhere near enough.

Roads-Portishead
Say Something-James
Hardcore Uproar-Together
I am the Resurrection-The Stone Roses
Mozart's Piano concerto No 17-The English Chamber Orchestra
Sympathy for the Devil-The Rolling Stones
Hedonism-Skunk Anansie
You got the Love-Candi Staton (I'd be quite happy with The Source remix)

Book: That's a toughie. You want something substantial, and they give you the Complete Billy Shakespeare and The Bible. I'd like to swap the Bible for Feyman's Lectures on Physics and choose Neal Stephenson's Anathem for my pick.
Luxury: A games console and shitload of games.

Every single one of the above is subject to change depending on what mood I'm in.

which is exactly why eight isn't enough. this is madness! eight albums i could maybe do, but eight songs? get fucked, universe.

Music:

Still Alive - Jonathan Coulton - Plan to have it played at my funeral, need the irony and inspiration to get my shit together.

Carmina Burana - Orff - Because while I'm getting my shit together I need to fake play kettle drums while lashing stuff together.

Bad Things - Jace Everett - Because I want to remember my husband singing this to me. If I can have my husband record it before I go, fuck Jace.

Angel's Flight - Shadowfax - Because I spent years and years listening to this song with my head between speakers and it would be nostalgic and soothing.

The Atheist Christmas Carol - Vienna Teng - Another funeral song, if I were to pick an anthem, there it'd be.

Onion Skin - Boom Crash Opera - More good stuff to build things too since I'll be 'walkin' around with my heart caved in.'

Move On - Sunday in the Park With George - Because everyone needs some inspirational Mandy Patinkin and Bernadette Peters.

Desert Pete - The Kingston Trio - Because it would remind me of my dad and how you must have faith and believe. You've got to give of yourself a'fore you're worthy to receive.

Book - Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman - Good Omens. I'm going to need the humor and the belief that fate is not determined ahead of time.

Luxury Item: Give me a LifeStraw, spare me the labor of gathering and boiling water.

That might be too survivaley. If it's only Luxury, give me soap.

I tried to come up with just 8 pieces of music and I just can not. Everyone I think I have one in mind another pops in my head. I'll trade all the music and books for a guitar and a toothbrush.

1) Rite of Spring - Part 1: The Adoration of the Earth. I know, classical pieces like this are a bit of a cheat, this one is 16 minutes long
but it's my all time favourite piece of music and it's what I'd want played at my funeral.

2) & 3) Mars and Venus from The Planets Suite, by Holst, both awesome, each in their own way.

4) The Lark Ascending, by Vaughan Williams. Beautifully transcendental, and a reminder of the English countryside for those hot desert island days.

5) Cannonball, by Cannonball Adderley. Dig that be-bopping sax man!

6) You Go To My Head, by Art Pepper, dreamy sax, yeeaaah...

7) All Systems Go, by James Horner (RIP cool dude ) from the Apollo 13 soundtrack, gives me goosebumps every time, plus this is my 'preparing to go scuba diving' music and seeing as I'm on a desert Island...?

8) The Killing Moon, by Echo and the Bunnymen, love the lyrics and jangly guitar

9) How Soon is Now, by The Smiths, because no matter how depressed you feel, Morrissey is always far more miserable yet funny with it.

10) Born to Run, by Bruce Springsteen. THE greatest rock anthem ever, I'll brook no argument

Book? Would Lord of the Rings be cheating? Oh all right then, I'll have The Outsider by Albert Camus

Luxury item - all my scuba equipment plus a compressor to refill the tanks. Too much? OK then I'll have my saxophone and all the tutor books to go with it.

8 eighties hair band tunes
Book: Instruction book for my luxury item
Luxury item: A satellite phone with GPS positioning

I could probably figure the phone out. I might like Fatas diary to read while I wait for my seaplane.

lol

I don't have a diary. Most of it would be ways I fantasize about Phil dying if I did though.

Which eighties tunes? Vixen I bet.

Probably not but I listened to some Vixen the other day. I like Roxy Petrucci.

Some 60's 70's and 80's

A Tesla, Cinderella, Dokken, Ratt, Rush, Van Halen song of my choice.

A Dramatics tune....maybe "In the Rain", Happy by Pharrel and to remind me of you, West End Girls by Pet Shop Boys.

I used to have a neon pink 12" disc of Edge of a Broken Heart.

Oh you know what?

Shame on me. Fuck pet shop dickheads.

Something off Rumors to remind me of Fata.

I have the original album mint condish upstairs. Love it.

Aww. I'll definitely have Stevie in some incarnation on my list. Still pondering.

Oh I do love McVie and Oh Daddy is my fave vocal by her. Not a bad track on that album mind. My fave is The Chain.

And not to be a bummer but without a way to desalinize water, start a fire, and fish, you'll be dead in ten days.

:)

I gave up on my music list but I know Gimme Shelter is on it, maybe Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley. Book: A Moveable Feast, Hemingway. Lux item a Viking range hooked up to a gas pipeline.
