I've seen it on other sites and it always seems to help me out on whether I want to read a story or not since just glancing at the title of the story or some of bad descriptions don't really give you a good idea. I've always wondered why Literotica was seemingly behind the times with the abbreviated descriptions or whatever you want to call it.

Simply the M/F or M/FF or F/F type of things that at a glance will lead you to know if you actually want to delve into a story or not because it might contain something that doesn't turn you. Let's face it nothing worse that reading through a good build up or just being thrown right into something that's gross (To you) and nothing worse than trolling through the stories and missing stuff that might be what you're looking for if you only had a good/better description of what is going on in it.

I know there is more than just breaking down of male and female being involved in the story but I've been on Literotica so long that I can't remember them all. BDSM obviously would be another. Preg would be another. I think it would do a lot of good if you were looking for that certain kink that holds your interest for the day or week or whatever but you can't ever really find it because the search engine doesn't really find what you're looking for. Wouldn't have to be a huge list of things to include but some of the major involvements at least.

As a person with obscure weekly kinks, I very much agree.

Well, if you only get your rocks off to Mmh/Mf t bd ds mc rom ws, the Literotica system might be a bit limiting.

Me, I'm sometimes looking for surprises.

Now, if there were story codes for "good writing", "contains politics", "interresting plot twist" and "warning: cliffhanger"...

Well...

No I don't ONLY get my kicks off of that but I don't think some people even care about the description part with things like "The Sailing Trip: A nice time on the water." I can see that sailing is and most likely water is involved by the title. So why bother with the crappy description? I like surprises but actually knowing what a story is about is something I like as well. How many times do you get a book from a new author without reading the back jacket or watch a movie without seeing the trailer first? I bet never.

DEFLEUR

Writers here have too little imagination and sense of humor to create the kind of titles you want.

I agree, Defleur.

The fandom 'warnings' system is a good one, very comprehensive and can give you a lot of information without spoiling the story...

But lit was one of the very first fiction sites, developed before the system had made it into the mainstream.

One useful tool here, is the author's favorites page in their profile. Some of them just fill it full of friends :p but if you really like one author, the people she likes might be congenial to you as well...

Alright

Nice point Stella. I know I usually will read all an author has to offer when I find one of their stories that I like. I never noticed the favorites section before I'll have to take a look at that next time.

I thought if you wanted M/M or Lesbian there was only one thread to go to here of each (and none for bi) and that everything else was some variation of straight, as loosely denoted by the subcategory. I thought what you were going to get in that cut was pretty evident here.

Lit is a wonderful site, but state-of-the-art, it ain't. The scoring system is especially outmoded and primitive, and just try and find a member using the member index, which hasn't working in the 6 years I've been here. Story ratings is another place they could use modernization.

On the other hand, it's frightfully easy to use because there are so few options.

BDSM, evidently, trumps lesbian, anyway... 3113's Fancy man stories are all in M/M except for the one that features a female bottom. Those aren't D/s fics, particularly, but fun reads nevertheless-- She's on my rec list; no matter how vanilla her characters are, there's always a wicked hint of power play in the plot.

Hmm. All of my M/M BDSM are in the Gay Male section. Guess I'm not making them BDSM enough for the trump to kick in.

The "description" field is REALLY small. It's not easy to make what you want to say fit. I dunno. If you can't handle some guy suckin a dick, too damn bad, really. That sort of thing happens in mainstream lit, often enough.

Jean Auel, for example, wrote a several hundred page novel like thing about eating pussy. Her thesis seemed to be that eating pussy made the prehumans become human. And also, they had to form a new tribe where pussy eating was okay.

Really! at least 700 of the nearly thousand pages of her book were the Saga of How Eating Pussy made Us Truly Human. She didn't have to put a bunch of codes on the cover.

A couple of Spider Robinson stories, to date, have had the point that pot saves the universe. No codes required.

Really. Find a good author, and read his stuff.

Nope, nothing trumps gay male. Homophobes; can't live with them, can't shoot them.

Now this is weird; I included a link to your page as well as 3113's, and now it isn't in my post?

SR71plt's gay male (oh, and BDSM-by-the-way) stories.

Hmmm. I shouldn't have checked out where you were linking too, I guess, because I noted that recently someone(s) has(ve) taken the time and effort to double dump on all of my H stories and reduce them by half. I'm somewhat surprised that an appendage isn't missing from the E stories as well. I suppose I should pull a Freddie about this--but I don't really have the energy for that. Too busy writing up an oriental anthology.

That reminds me, I must dig out my "Tom of Finland" playing cards

Speaking of which, anyone else notice that "Tom of Finland" images have been disappearing from the Internet free zones? Bugger.
