Ok, writerly question  :D

I want to be able to describe the furnature and decor of my characters home, but I don't really know anything about furnature styles. Does anybody know of a web site that would have some helpful information along the lines of 'furnature styles and materials for dummies'?

Thanks.

Maybe should have posted this on the Nana research thread, but I didn't think of it because it's not for nano.

You might try:
http://www.connectedlines.com/styleguide/

It's not the only site, possibly not even the best, but it should give enough detail unless you submitting to Architectural Digest or Town & Country.

Your might try THIS

I t links to various museums and their furniture collections, by time period.

Didn't have the time to check it all out.

We don't need no steenking pictures

How about www.homevisions.com It's illustrated in color, but only for the styles they happen to be selling.

If you have some particular style in mind e.g. Chippendale or Arts & Crafts, or whatever, you could just plug the name into a search engine and get dozens of hits

I worked in durnture a while S & P.

Try searches for Broyhill, Kinkaid, Thomasville for traditional designs.
Iron accents, Nuna, and maybe International design for modern stuff.

You'll get a lot of info you don't need, but htey shouls show individual pieces and suiets in the basic styles.

You also might want to try a search for shaker. It's a kind of asutere american style that has become popular and a lot of companies make a shaker set or two, and you should be able to view the rest of their catalogs.
