Newsom Misled the Public About Wildfire Prevention Efforts Ahead Of Worst Fire Season On Record

https://www.capradio.org/167032

On Gavin Newsom’s first full day in office, Jan. 8, 2019, the newly elected governor stood before the cameras, clad in jeans and sneakers and surrounded by emergency responders, and declared war on wildfires.

“Everybody has had enough,” the governor said, announcing he’d signed a sweeping executive order overhauling the state’s approach to wildfire prevention. Climate change was sparking fires more frequent, ferocious, and far-reaching than ever before, Newsom said, and confronting them would have to become a year-round effort.

The state’s response, Newsom added, “fundamentally has to change.”

But two-and-a-half years later, as California approaches what could be the worst wildfire season on record, it does so with little evidence of the year-round attention Newsom promised.

An investigation from CapRadio and NPR’s California Newsroom found the governor has misrepresented his accomplishments and even disinvested in wildfire prevention. The investigation found Newsom overstated, by an astounding 690%, the number of acres treated with fuel breaks and prescribed burns in the very forestry projects he said needed to be prioritized to protect the state’s most vulnerable communities. Newsom has claimed that 35 “priority projects” carried out as a result of his executive order resulted in fire prevention work on 90,000 acres. But the state’s own data show the actual number is 11,399........

Tech jobs, sun, and no income tax: Florida is poised to keep growing

Of course buildings fall down in Florida. It is a third world country lead by Desantis and the radical right.

Third world country, indeed!

Florida's population grew by 2.7 million — or 14.6% — between 2010 and 2020, according to US Census data. This is double the rate of overall US population growth.

In particular, Florida is becoming a hotspot for banking and financial services, while Miami is as emerging as "one of the hottest new tech hubs in North America today," he said.

Hedge fund Elliott Management is moving its headquarters to West Palm Beach, private-equity firm Blackstone plans to open an office in Miami, and Goldman Sachs is considering the state for its asset management division. Even Subway is shifting some business units to Miami.

Florida famously doesn't have a personal income tax, and this is one of the major motivators for migration, Boyd told Insider. He added that many people moving to the state come from high-tax states that don't have such a pro-business environment, like Connecticut and New Jersey, as well as New York, which recently announced plans to bump up its income-tax rates for its wealthiest residents.

Yeah, DeSantis was 3 yrs old when that building was built, I'm sure it was his fault!!

Oh wait, Carter was President in early '81, it's HIS fault!!

Yeah. yeah, that's it, blame Carter!!

2 weeks ago, a giant crane was removed after having been doing heavy lifting to the roof in order for work to get done to bring things up to code under florida's 40-year thingy. this may have absolutely nothing to do with the collapse, only time and forensic investigation with show the whys.

What was this building in Florida?
residential condos on the beach front... i believe 55 of about 130(?) apartments collapsed

Was it built on his watch? Was he holding it up and then let it go? How did he let it fall? Did anyone know it was going to fall?:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Anything to do with that bomb the navy set off in the ocean that registered as an earthquake in Florida?

New reported number is 99 missing in the DeSantis DiSaster. :( :rose:

King Ronnie let his people down .... along with their building.

The building was built on reclaimed wetland. It was shown to be sinking in the 1990s. That by itself, shouldn't cause a collapse. But now...let's use our brains a minute.

If a building sinks...does it sink uniformly? No. So would that put stress on the building creating cracks? Yes. These are given non-debatable facts.

The building was being retrofitted to bring it up to code. This usually entails removal of certain structural components as dictated by the engineers. Wanna take bets they made their decisions based on the original blueprint and didn't take into account the building was sinking at a rate of 2mm/year? 40 yr old building...times 2mm/yr...80mm
...
10mm/cm...8cm. 2.54cm/inch...that's over 3 inches

This will get very ugly before it is over

It was an inside job. The building was made of thermite, and collapsed in its own footprint.

Many people are saying Critical Race Theory tore out the I-beams.
