DeSantis gets smacked by judge on masks. No more ban, effective IMMEDIATELY

Damn! A southern Deplorable governor can't even make school children sick any more! :(

Need to take this up with the Supreme Court of the U.S.!!!!!

But muh freedum!! Lol

Good to see some common sense. People against masks are commie neo maoist retards. :)

Is anyone still thinking of DeSantis as presidential material?

Far too many. The same ones still thinking of Trump as presidential material no matter how much he negated that while actually in the office.

The dangerous thing, I suppose, is that DeSantis might appear more a more plausible candidate because he's younger, and has actual experience in government.

Because democracy is garbage. There's a reason the framers didn't want a democracy. Democracies don't work. They set up a republic centered around liberty. Liberty and democracy are not the same thing and too many fools like you mistakenly think it is.

They wanted a monarchy. Why is this a lying competition?

may not have been set up this way originally, but it's as much a democracy as it is a republic today
the US is both a Constitutional Democracy AND a Democratic Republic
Constitutional Republic vs. Democratic Republic

Republics differ from direct democracies. A republic is "a state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives." Many modern democracies are republic because the citizens elect representatives rather than govern the state themselves.

Both a constitutional republic and a democratic republic are forms of government where the power rests with the people and is exercised through representative government. The government has an elected head of state.

In a constitutional republic, the government is limited by the laws established in its formal constitution. The government is run by elected officials voted by the population, and those officials must adhere to the government's rules in the constitution.

A democratic republic runs the government how a republic does and bases its government on democratic ideals. To best explain this, the United States can be used as an example. The United States has free and fair elections and citizen participation in government. Additionally, the U.S. protects the human rights of its citizens and honors the rule of law. These four things make the United States a democracy. The fact that the United States has elected government officials and an elected head of government who make laws according to the people's will.

The United States, like other large governments, is not entirely described by a single term and is a hybrid of multiple terms. The United States is both a constitutional democracy and a democratic republic

The Democracy Index

The Democracy Index is an index compiled by the Economist Intelligence Unit. The index measures the states of democracy in 167 based on 60 indicator groups in five different categories: electoral process and pluralism, functioning of government, political participation, political culture, and civil liberties. Each country is scored between 0 and 10 in each of the five categories, then averaged for an overall score. Overall scores between 8.01 and 10 are considered full democracies, which there are 22 of in the world. There are ten countries with scores of 9.0 or higher. These are the most democratic nations in the world.

Democracy

Democracy is a form of government in which the people have the authority to deliberate and decide legislation, or to choose governing officials to do so. Who is considered part of "the people" and how authority is shared among or delegated by the people has changed over time and at different rates in different countries, but over time more and more of a democratic country's inhabitants have generally been included. Cornerstones of democracy include freedom of assembly and speech, inclusiveness and equality, membership, consent, voting, right to life and minority rights.

The notion of democracy has evolved over time considerably. The original form of democracy was a direct democracy. The most common form of democracy today is a representative democracy, where the people elect government officials to govern on their behalf such as in a parliamentary or presidential democracy.[2]

Prevalent day-to-day decision making of democracies is the majority rule,[3][4] though other decision making approaches like supermajority and consensus have also been integral to democracies. They serve the crucial purpose of inclusiveness and broader legitimacy on sensitive issues—counterbalancing majoritarianism—and therefore mostly take precedence on a constitutional level. In the common variant of liberal democracy, the powers of the majority are exercised within the framework of a representative democracy, but the constitution limits the majority and protects the minority—usually through the enjoyment by all of certain individual rights, e.g. freedom of speech or freedom of association.[5][6]

A society where 51% of the population can silence the other 49 is one step above mob rule and will not survive.

A society where 51% can politically win over 49% can do very well indeed for a very long time. The UK is essentially that kind of state -- no constitutional limits or institutional obstructions on the power of Parliament. It has a good human-rights record and shows no sign of impending failure.

Nahhh, mob rule is like when a bunch of dumb-ass sore-loser Deplorables gather around the Capitol Building and break in during a joint session of Congress held to certify an election that was counted and recounted.

Solution: lock up members of the mob, and keep doing so until they give up on mob rule.
