I think my cat is depressed ... I never see it in a cat. She acts very different for some reason. What can I do to help her?

Cats definitely get depressed!! When I was travelling a lot for work last year, my cat got really mopey... he wouldn't cuddle with me when I was home at all. And then I realized he was over-grooming when I was away. He actually wound up with many, many bald spots all over his body!!

He just needed some love. He needed to know that his "mommy" was still here for him.

Do what you'd do for a significant other... cuddle with your kitty... get her a present (catnip toy? something they'll like)...and then actually spend time *playing* with her.

I've been some what rude with her ... I keep her out of the bedroom because I don't like hair on my bed. I always act with cats like I'd act with dogs but I mostly had male cats and they ware always happy ... perhaps I should let her in ...

We can go away for weeks and our oldest cat doesn't notice - but then she sleeps 20 hours a day, lol.

Our middle cat has some serious issues with separation anxiety. Just being away for the day makes her all clingy and shit.

The first time one of us went away for a weekend after we got Oscar he was about 5 months old and the first night he threw and absolute fit. He hates it when his people are away. He's a very high maintenance cat.

Do the stuff Red Rose suggested, but the tricky part is finding out why your cat is depressed.

Hey sweetie ~*smiles*~ how are you tonight?

i have 8 cats!.. so i know a thing or two about them. i don't think you neccessiarily need to let her in your bedroom. However, if you do let her in, understand that she'll expect you to let her come in there from now on. There's nothing wrong with setting boundries.

Any time one of my cats gets moopy, it's usually because they're feeling left out and want attention. I would make sure to spend time with her everyday...

What kind of personality does she have? Is she cuddly? Playful? Or perfer to be left alone? Letting her sit in your lap or next to you while you're doing something else would mean the world to her if she likes cuddling. If she's playful there's all kinds of toys she'd like, our cats FAVORITE toy is a lazor pointer, i highly recommend getting one (just be sure not to shine it in her eyes, it will burn the retna!) If she likes to be left alone, leave a few pinches of catnip around her favorite spots or even get a catnip pillow...

hopefully i've made helpful suggestions.

Hey BG.

She is very smart cat. One of most intelligent animals I've been in contact with. She answers when I call her by name. Loves closeness and sweet talk. I let her into the bedroom and she seems a little happier ... I'll let you guys know if her mood improves. Thanx for all your help.
