All agree that the bird in the picture above does look exactly like an American crow. Are you saying though that the bird in that picture looks to you exactly like the bird in the water bottle picture yes or no?
I think the water bottle bird looks longer leaner with a longer tail and smaller than that bird appears to be.
How does a guide to tell the difference between Crows help you determine the difference between a crow and a grackle?
Cuz grackles don't look or sound like crows. If you notice there are several species of crows and not one single species of crow looks like a grackle. Easy peasy.
Yeah! I've actually posted about this before, which is part of the reason why it's weird to me that Que is acting like I don't know what a crow is, but there was this crow in the bank my granny used to do her business at that talked. It was a pet, because that's pretty common, which is why it's buckwild Anne thinks they won't come near people.
But that bird would fuck with me. He was in this cage and he'd be like,
"Hey kid, hey kid. Come here"
"Let me out"
"Give me candy".
They had a sign under this cage like, "Please do not let this bird out or give him candy. He's fat and he'll poop on things."
But like he learned "Give me candy" because the bank gave out suckers to kids, and people would frequently give him suckers. I gave him suckers. He was fat as hell.
I'm somewhat of a bird enthusiast; my charity dollars go to bird conservancy. And bird intelligence and evolution are just endlessly fascinating to me.
Cute vid. Also, I didn't learn until just a few years ago that crows are songbirds, and can be taught to speak English (and, presumably, other human words).

Also not for nothing, but you know what I just did? I went and found me a list of every species of bird found in croatia.

You know what happens if you hit "cntrl-F" and type in "grackle"?
It makes a noise and turns pink to alert you to the fact that
wait for it
There ain't no grackles in Croatia.
Tbh, I don't care enough to go and look at the picture. Thread tl;dr. I will if it will make you happy.I see. So you are agreeing that the water bottle grackle can't be a crow, what with it looking like a grackle?
That's a relief, because I was starting to think that I was the only person that saw it as a grackle.
Thanks!
Ha!
Brilliant proof.
I shall preheat the oven.
350° sound about right?
Pluck, me!
Thank you. That was a waste of time for everyone involved.

I just can't believe people have such a hard time identifying those 3 common species of birds. Ravens big, crows black, grackles blue/black.
Back in a sec.

Nonsense we learned far more than we ever knew about birds in Croatia, and far more than we ever would have learned from a hashtag post about the birds in Croatia.

It would have been more supportive though for you to post something like this:

K, I see your mistake. If we are to presume that all 3 different pictures are of the same group of birds, evident by the little ducky thing, they are definitely crows. The tail in the top pic is fanned. The birds in the other pictures are all black as well. In the one picture the light is being reflected from the glossy black feathers making them appear blue. If the three pictures being used were of random flocks of birds one could mistake the light reflecting crow being a grackle. But the dead give away is the fact that crows travel in murders and are rarely seen alone or in pairs.
Um.
The "crow" is alone in the video where it is being social with people and not other "crows."
I'm apparently the only person that thinks that that bird looks far more like the bottom picture than the middle picture.
Your explanation that crows are black and do not contain any blue black, and the grackles do would appear to clear that up except for the grackles here to me look completely black. All they do have a kind of a greasy iridescent sheen to them that I think would probably what you're calling blue black.
Sigh. I'm talking about the crows RoryN posted at the beginning of the thread. I didn't watch the video. Don't make me watch the video, I hate cute animal videos.![]()
If you sent me to the store to get anything involving color I would toss you the keys to the Prius and say go get it your own damn self.
Que I can't go out lookin like this look at my goddamn roots
Tosses you my hat. You'll look cute in it.... go!
It's not a video it's a gif at the top of page 3.
