depleted scrotum

Greetings,

my wife & I have recently decided to try conceiving a new human being. It's very exciting but there is one problem. I have a rather stronger sexual appetite than her which I resolve very simply by masturbating whenever I feel like it. Like every day. Or even twice a day. Logically, if one ejaculates often enough one will purge sperm quicker than the body produces it, leading to semen that's, shall we say, not quite up to the job. I've read that a sperm cell takes on the order of months to reach maturity and that got me worried a bit.

My questions are: is there a chance I've depleted my sperm reserves? If so, how long do I have to wait (approximately) to recover them? Is it on the order of days, weeks or worse? I've now gone six days without an orgasm which, yeah, makes me a bit crazy but I'm doing my best :)

Which leads to another question. I can prevent ejaculation when orgasming by pushing a spot at the root of my penis, effectively blocking passage for the semen & keeping it inside (sorry, don't know the official name for that). Does it help to keep the sperm count up? And is it safe with regard to the prostate etc.?

I trust in the wisdom of the Literotica Oracle and thank in advance for replies...

There's been studies done on this, the ideal amount of time to go between ejaculations for highest fertility is two days. They actually recommend couples trying to conceive have sex every other day rather than every day, although it works almost as well to do it every day. But, good news for you, you would only need to change your habits for the approximately 5 days each month that she's likely to be ovulating. If she doesn't normally mark the days of her menstruation on a calendar, she should start doing so. Ovulation will occur approximately halfway through the non-menstruation part of the cycle. Some women are extra-horny at ovulation and can just tell when it happens. There are also lutenizing hormone test strips which are cheap and can detect ovulation.

So basically, if you stop masturbating 3 days before she's due to ovulate and continue not masturbating for 2 days after, and have sex at least twice in that window, that will give you maximum chances for conception.

Thanks sunandshadow for a prompt and comprehensive reply. Not to mention it's quite encouraging :)

By pushing on that spot you are still going to ejaculate only it is going to end up in your bladder. I believe it is called retrograd ejaculation and it will still use up your sperm. Your best bet is to abstane for a few days then have sex around the time that she is ovulating. Good luck.

Does that hurt?

Does it hurt when you push the root of your penis just before ejaculating? It seems like you could do some damage to yourself.

another thought

I'm in the same situation, we're in the process of baby making ... a fun process I might add. I also remember a scientific article I read some years ago that said your sperm count is higher if you're separated from your partner for even a couple of days. It's some psychological / biological sperm competition thing. Apparently we're hardwired to produce more sperm when there's the chance (real or not) that they'll be competing with someone else's sperm. So, if she tracks her cycle and either you or her are gone for a few days before her cycle, you might have a better shot (no pun intended, but I like it) when you're back together again. Good luck and I hope we both do our work well.

No, it doesn't hurt. I haven't done it in a while but I remember it's a bit of a bizarre feeling. You are basically pushing against your own muscles that are beyond your control at that moment. And it always surprised me how much thrust the pumping muscles created - I had to push quite firmly to prevent "leakage".

As for damage it could cause, I'm not aware of anything but I only did it occasionally and was never concerned enough to look it up. I think I've read somewhere that the samurai would use the technique regularly - they believed sperm contained some sort of life force they wanted to keep in the body. So I don't think there's any major risk to it.

Yes, your count increases when you're away from your partner. But IIRC, the increase is in the number of "fighter sperm," rather than in the number of sperm that fertilizes the egg. Last I read, some sperm defend against other men's sperm by tangling them up and otherwise impeding them from getting to the egg, whereas others have the sole task of getting to the egg and fertilizing it. When you're away, your body recognizes the possibility that your woman could have gotten other sperm in her, and then it produces more sperm with the specific job of fighting that other sperm off. But I think the number of fertilizing sperm stays about the same, so if your woman hasn't been with another guy, being away doesn't really help you make a baby.

Wow... I never would have imagined us males having fighting sperm. Now if we can just get the cable networks to put spermfighting matches on instead of basketball.. we might have a marketable sport. lol

Thanks for that tidbit of information!
The fact that we have fighting sperm says profound things about the human race and our modern society, eh?
