Depicting Mental Illness

Minutes ago I was at YOUTUBE looking for vids of real schizophrenics, I found actors not patients, and the performances missed accuracy by a mile.

For example, try to act catatonic, that is, motionless. Normal people cant be THAT still, Catatonic schizophrenics do not move...period, and pass for mannequins. Most people move to a noticeable degree, they cant stop moving totally, catatonics can. And when they move its startling to see.

Paranoid schizophrenics attack verbally and physically. Its spontaneous, outta the blue, violence with words, weapons, and physical battery. They explode for no apparent reason.

Hebephrenic or Disorganized Schizophrenics play with shit and conceal turds in their pockets or hands. They like to smear turds on people, furniture, walls, etc. I've seem girls shit on beds and pull sheets over the pile, to surprise their lovers. Their speech is verbal word salad. If the speech makes no sense the person is this type schizophrenic.

Simple Schizophrenia no longer exists as an official mental disorder, most liberals are simple schizophrenics is why. These folks believe absurd nonsense and practice magical thinking. Like...IF YOU LIKE YOUR DOCTOR YOU CAN KEEP YOUR DOCTOR.

Thanks and ...

Thanks for this. Interesting in a somewhat morbid way. I understand there are treatments for schizophrenia - how effective are they? And are some of the types of schizophrenia easier to treat effectively than others?

Two things: Many meds have unpopular side effects, you may have seen the Parkinsons like symptoms some meds create. So many schizophrnics self medicate with booze and street drugs. The other thing is trust when it comes to ignoring hallucinations. Hallucinations seem more real than dreams. And the voices are often spoken by people the schizophrenic knows and trusts. So it takes a miracle to get the patient to switch allegiance from the dead mother he 'sees' and 'hears' and loves, to you.

I'm writing a story where the lost mom ridicules and curses the schizophrenic son. Think Norman Bates.
