Darkness Falls

When he awoke, Nephilim came forth restless. His awareness of significant passing time registered as the hunger across the palate. Left undisturbed, the demonic could only lay dormant deep within the foundation of this place to maintain his existence. Each disturbance that walked within the walls of the dwelling humans had named “Augustus Sanatorium” pulled him forth, forced his energies to drain. Yet nourishment eludes keeping him in this purgatory of man.

His kind always existed in some form, throughout all the ages. Sedate beings or lessers could move about unrestrained from the bounds of the rite. They could release energies sensed by humans uncontrollably. Yet Nephilim was not a lesser, and he was far from sedate. His remnants could roam within this dwelling, but his being was trapped within its walls.

The will of the demonic knows that in this form, he could exist only with a trinity of need only achieved through humans:
A place to bond to, or to humankind the home.
A vessel in which to present, or man.
And a source for nourishment, or the other.
This need manifested when the dwelling were nothing but a garden and an apple tree. Great cities burned thru the need to remove this bond. As time passed, the bond fell from favor and humankind turned on itself. Nephilim had seen man destroyed each other out of fear and misguidance. Man merely understood its own place in existence, not that the balance of the world included Nephilim. For without Nephilim, there would be no balance.

This dwelling bore itself as the ideal, this Augustus Sanatorium. It took great energy generations ago to bond with this dwelling, and soon thereafter, his reward was instantaneous. Nephilim presented into a vessel the humans called, Schoolmaster. Through this vessel, he reaped. When the law of man intervened, the Schoolmaster branded Rapist before removed from this place. Before Nephilim needed to become dormant, he was allowed to present in the one they called Father whom surrounded himself with many he called by the same name, Sister. Nephilim had fed on many of the ‘Sister’, the Father proving to be too willing of a vessel. Once again, the vessel felt scorn from humankind, and one called Mother Superior killed Father in his sleep

Then, the dwelling emptied. Generations passed. Nephilim grew hungry.

There were those who came to this place who awoke him. His memory, while weak, remembers disturbances but his weakness allowed him to forget.

This night brought something greater. This disturbance this eve awakened him, pulling forth enough to draw what remains of his energy. Nephilim arose, restless, hungry. Human voices rattled through the halls. The demon felt two within the disturbance, one noticeably the Alpha, the leader.

Nephilim arose, wandered the halls, and then came upon a man. The demonic sensed this one was not the Alpha. In fact, this man would yield to Alpha in the disturbance. The man worked on devices like none Nephilim seen, sometimes speaking but unseen voice returned. If there were worthy reason, this male would make a good vessel to allow Nephilim to present. The search for the Alpha drew forth eagerness. Already, the anticipation allowed his control to waver, and enough of his energy to release from his being. As Nephilim found the other his nature realized the demonic energies were free to be wasted. Nephilim would feed this night, the Alpha was female.

Ally had the whole place set up, wired with infrared cameras. She had all her other equipment on the main level. Augustus Sanatorium was renowned for being haunted and she was here to prove it. Her business was small and still growing but this for her met finding proof evidence that the paranormal was real. Her life was at stake her or at least she felt that way.

Going downstairs she found Nick there and smiled to him. ”Are we all set to go?” She asked him as she walked over to the desk that held all the monitors that would give her a view of the whole place. She would be doing EVP sessions and trying to get any and as much evidence as she could. She had come close before but her equipment had shorted out, this time she was determined that would not happen.

After doing her initial check of all the cameras checking their views on the monitors she stood up and smiled triumphantly. Running her fingers through her hair she pulled it up into a pony tail high on her head. Her long brown hair curled and waved as she did. She wore a pair of jeans, black biker boots, a white t shirt, and her leather jacket. This was her typical attire, she loved her bike about as much as she loved doing what she was doing tonight.

Taking in a slow methodical breath she looked around at what would be called base camp. Walking over to the switch that had been wired to control the entire home she grinned. ”Lights out.” Flicking the switch she watched as the power went off and everything inside of her seemed to come to life. She wasn’t a patient person and had little tolerance for anything making her wait.

Walking over to the table she grabbed a few items and looked at Nick. ”Alright lets begin.” She said to him, it wasn’t a question more of a command. Looking over to Rob she nodded to him. ”Radios to channel 3 and Rob keep your eyes peeled if you see anything let us know. She was in her work mode now, her mind was focused and she was no longer her playful self, now she was serious and down to business.

Nephilim grew more eager. His ability to control his energies wavered. They manifested through sources of power where it could be gained, igniting other souls when crossed. Before Nephilim could emerge through the vessel, he needed to understand the prey. He took a form that could existed in a cross between worlds; drifting in and out like air through a portal. In the generations that passed since he first came to this dwelling, what brought his power had changed. Around these walls hung objects emitting sustenance. Unlike when he takes the vessel, Nephilim felt fueled like when the skies are dark with storms.

As drawn as the demon was to the woman, the need was to know the vessel and prepare for when it is time to present. The vessel was taller than the woman yet thin. His tendency to reach for a breathing device seemed to calm burning in his lungs. The object over his eyes was filled with glass, and rimmed with black material similar to the color of his short hair. Like the girl, he wore white over his chest, and fitting blue cloths covering his nethers; though she wore animal hides where he did not. She had called him Nick, he had called her Ally. She had remained focused on the objects they brought. He allowed his focus to move elsewhere. When she stopped to retrieve items from the floor, that focus left his work to the woman’s nethers hidden within her cloths and the energies rose in him two fold. Nephilim knew this was something to be used, a deep seeded desire for that which he would not normally have.

As they moved about, this team of disturbance, he studied their actions and listened to their words. These modern objects had names, like voice recorder and infrared. He followed their strategies, moving from room to room. In their actions, they appeared hunters as well. Once when a lost soul crossed their path, they seemed to grow with excitement. Sensing a bait, Nephilim tore a soul from the death fabric of the dwelling, and tossed it to these humans, and was amazed to find it’s presence caused great reaction.

The need now was to tease, to lure. In this form, could not physically manifest in the human realm, but he could sense; and he could sense her. She too was eager, she too had an energy. There was confidence and strength. His urge drove him to attempt to touch, something impossible in this form. Instead, he passed through her with only her aura in contact with him. He wanted more of her, but could not muster the energy. He only wanted to make her aware.

Nephilm found an object they called microphone, passed within, and moved along it until finding the vessel. Nick laid his attention on an object, and the room had a sense of frustration. The object was not as Nick wanted it, and he worked to resolve his dilemma. Nephilim chose this time to begin the process, to give this Nick a new dilemma to resolve.

The transition took time to complete, but already Nephilim felt the air the vessel breathed and the cold of the night on skin. Soon, he will be able to present. Soon his hunger will be satisfied.
