Unbelievably fucking stupid. You have ACTUAL houses being neglected and allowed to fall into disrepair. Maintain one is easier than building one from scratch. There is a reason that roofs have slopes, that ice dams are a thing in northern climates. In a pinch in the southwest such a container would work. In Detroit it is idiotic.

You can bury one of those things in 100ft of snow and they would laugh it off as extra insulation then turn around and sneer at a hurricane head on.

I almost built a container house out here....if you don't cut too much of them out they are probably one of the toughest, low maintenance above ground living structures a common person can afford. It would almost certainly be more expensive to re-hab old houses that have fallen into disrepair than to fit a container with insulation, electrical and some dry wall.

Still might at some point...you can make them beast status and pimpin' as hell, for super cheap. I got a guy in the bay who can get me 40' boxes all day long for super cheap, like 8g's cheap.

The problem is you have to seal the window and door frames to the walls. The heat inside is going to both cause condensation and snow melt. It is going to get into cracks and crevices that you attempted to seal, refreeze, expand and cause leaks.

I like the idea for the dry climates. I want to build a fake one out of fiberglass with retractable undercarriage like 8x10. I could drop it anywhere and just look like a construction shack.

We have fabulous epoxies, paints and insulators now days man...seriously, bang for the buck container homes are damn near unbeatable. 8,000 bucks can get you a couple solid rust free 45' high cubes. Spend 30 at home depot and a month or two of blood sweat and tears?

Got an arctic hurricane ready 675sqft. home for about what a decent mid size sedan cost.

Plus they are modular...if you need more space you just break out the plasma cutter and get the fuck to work. And in that same spirit you can spend a fucking fortune on them.

Just like any house really, you can make them as simple and tank like or as fancy and less tank like as you want/budget allows. They are just steel box frames instead of 2x4 ones. You can even do pitched roofs with snow breaks on them . Or poly roof and have a greenhouse with a solid steel locking door like me B)

Super versatile, super sturdy and relatively cheap as hell if you don't get all fancy pants with them.

That would be pretty rad. I want to perch a little 20' high cube up on the top of the mountain so when I hike up there I can park my ass in comfort for a bit and enjoy the view as long as I want, just a coffee supply, humidor full of doobz and a comfy throne with some tunes, maybe even have a little fire stove and some books. A daycation destination if you will.
