Lights

You are going to want a few lights. Just one hot light will give you the racoon in the headlights sort of footage. A couple more will balance things out, and make your productions more pleasing to view.

You'll want to make up some storyboards, make sure you work out the blocking, get plenty of coverage...what kind of movie is this again?

If at all possible, get a few more lights to help offset some of the shadows. Another camera or two wouldn't hurt either (just for different angles & variety when it comes to the editing process). I would definitely recommend a tripod for steadying shots; those real jumpy hand held scenes always looked amateurish. As far as actual shooting, attempt to make sure you get at least 10-15 seconds of footage at a time before you shut off the camera- if you really have intentions of using your iMovie's editing capabilities.

It sounds as though you could have lots of fun experimenting! Good luck.

Just rem that your video is not going to look like the porns you rent.

Unless you want to go thru all the effort of moving the camera ever few minutes you'll prob have one or a few stationary shots. If you want lots of angles I'd suggest you get the tripod and mark off different heights and positions before you even start. This means lots of prep work because you have to have an idea of what shots you want so you can test the position of your camera. After that it's take a 10-15 min shot then move camera. This gets tedious and you lose the flow of the sex (no pun intended).

LE is absolutely right about the lights. To get the best picture have it as bright as you can.

movie

My wife and I have video taped a few times. My wife likes it a lot because she can see her pussy which of course usually she can't.As far as the lights and tripod both are nessesary and dealing with the equipment gets to be a pain in the ass.Just take your time and try some things and then work on ideas that are a turn on for you and worth the effort.

Typically, the best setup for your home movie would be to have coverage from at least three camera positions. I suggest a locked down "hail mary" camera, a single steadi-cam and possibly a jib camera. Of course all cameras should be on iso-feeds to independent betacam decks. The tricky part will be parking the hi-def truck in the driveway and fitting craft services into the backyard.

I always thought the toughest part is when the woman calls for the stunt double to come in!

Kidding aside, realize that this is an amateur stab at making a video. If you're trying to make a seriously edit-able porn movie, you'll probably want to use multiple cameras and probably have someone filming you as you move about. Also try to realize that the pros can edit any scenes to make them seem twice as long or shorten them up by editing them out.

You can do it with two cameras, and move one...but then you have to restage, and you can't use natural light...and you absolutely need to make sure you get the sound right, because looping can be a bitch.

Thanks for the tips so far. The lighting seems to be the key, and also one of the hardest things to get right! I don't want it to look like we're making love underneath floodlights :)

I cheap way to make some lights..
Go to your hardware store and buy up some 200watt to 500watt outdoor tungston/halogen flood lamps.. Make up some "stands" using wood..and mount them on ii.

Sure, there not true production colour corrected professional lights, but they also don't cost thousands.

Once you have the lights setup, get a very white sheet of paper, or something very close to pure white, stick that in the middle of the scene with the lights pointed on it, and use that to set your white balance on the camera (refer to the manual)..

That will offset any strange colour hues or tones from your lights.

I think the best idea i can give you is a mistake most amateurs make. they are too aware of the camera and subconsicouly act up for it like moaning a lot more than usual or darting glances at the camera. These are not nice to watch. The best thing is to completely ignore the camera, and go about your lovemaking like normal. You both also might have to decide what to do with the tape if you break up. You might make a mutual decision to destroy or something. good luck. P.S. if you ever have an urge to be voyueristic and post the videos, here is one guy interested.

I think you should perfect your technique with lots of practice, thats how I would do it anyway, that way you get to have all the fun.
