Okay, so no laughing… but apparently "dipshit Blu the technical wonder idget" has struck again. God I’m so wonderfully technologically impaired. Can someone please walk me through the steps of completely deleting someone from a yahoo account? I have googled it but apparently still can’t get the son of a bitch right. And the last time I tried I ended up restoring the contact instead of deleting it. Then I thought I had deleted them only to find out~ nope still there. And trust me this last experience even more embarrassing than the first.

Come on I can’t be the only person who looks at their yahoo account and thinks ‘I don’t talk to this person anymore’ or ‘Jesus, I don’t ever want to talk to this person again’. But I can’t seem to completely delete their information. Am I missing something?

I put them on ignore then delete them

LOL. How???

That's just it. I thought I HAD deleted them. And nope sent them an email instead. Sheesh.

So how do I delete them without ever having to worry about accidentally sending or contacting them again? And yes I am that fucking clueless. Lol

Like smexygirl says first tag them in your account so they can't see when you're online or not. The next step is to delete your entire conversation history with that user. It often takes several minutes after a chat for it to get added to your chat history, so wait until you're sure the history is complete to delete. Then in the contacts section there is a category where deleted contacts are stored after you remove them... like the trash function in email. If you go in there you have the option to "permanently" delete them. If you do that AND delete all of your conversations with the other user they should be out of your account for good. If that doesn't work for some reason, you can choose to be invisible to that user specifically or everyone in general.

Complicated I know. That's why I'm on Gmail instead of Yahoo. :) Feel free to post here or pm with more questions.

wow you explained that well. thanks :)

right click wih your mouse for the options

No, I've had problems as well. I think I recently removed some contacts from YIM but the system annoys me. I don't use it that much anyway. Just as an aside, I found out recently that when chatting on Skype that updates may not go through til the next day. I was chatting with someone and realized after about 10 minutes my text updates were the only ones showing. Found out later the person on the other end wasn't seeing any of my updates and assumed I started doing other things and signed off. I don't use Skype that much either so I kind of freaked when this happened. I talked to a biz connection who uses Skype a lot and she said this has happened frequently to her, especially when switching devices/pcs.

Good call on right click! It gives one access to additional options like hiding status from individual users. I had some bad experiences with Yahoo chat myself and had to figure all of that out. Experience is life's best teacher!

I'd be careful when using Skype these days. Take a look at http://www.zdnet.com/big-brother-microsoft-listens-in-to-your-skype-ims-7000001495/

Okay so I went and looked through all my conversations. Seriously? The reason I couldn't delete this person is because I had a few stray conversations with them floating around?

I don't mind skype listening. They probably listen for key words that are red flags like terrorist convo's. If that is why, I could care less. Listen away.

I DOUBT they are listening to our sex conversations. If they are... why do youthink you are so special out of the millions doing it. I know I am not that important or the exciting.

I agree. It's like not being able to remove somebody from your address book just because you have an old email from them somewhere in your inbox. Stupid design, but that's how Yahoo does it. Sounds like you may have solved the problem. Double check that you've permanently delete the user from your contacts and hopefully you won't have any more problems.

No delusions of grandeur here! It's just another step in the wrong direction for privacy rights. Ignoring this minor issue will make Skype (and the government) feel they have the right to keep even more tabs on us.

Okay now how do I doublecheck? Like I said, I thought I had permanently deleted this contact before and I was wrong.

I tried pulling up their email and it doesn't automatically insert it. Does that mean it's permanently deleted? And duh why didn't I think to do that before?

edited to say a big THANK YOU!! [laughs] I actually found other contacts I thought I had deleted as well. Jesus I'm an idiot. I can't believe this hasn't happened to me before.

Make sure the user is out of all your normal contacts lists. In the contacts section there is a special category called something like "Deleted Contacts". I don't remember the exact name as I am no longer on Yahoo. If you don't see it, create a false entry in your contacts then delete it. That should make the special category appear. If you go in there it will show a list of contacts you've deleted from other places in Yahoo. Use the check boxes then click on the permanently delete button. Sorry for the poor explanation but the process is convoluted.

EDIT... You're welcome.
