Sure you can. If you want to submit an edited version submit it just like the old one (with the edited content) and put -EDITED at the end of the title.
Do the same to delete, except put -DELETE at the end of the title.

Just use the same title, and add *EDITED* to the end of the title. Paste/upload the new text, and put in a moderator note saying that you want to maintain your keywords, votes, comments, description, etc. - only replacing the text in the original submission with that of the new one.
It doesn't hurt to copy the link to the original version, and paste this in the moderator notes section of the form too.

I just resubmitted it. The person whose song lyrics I had copied asked me to remove them. I had totally forgotten I had used them in the first place!

Ok, so if the story gets deleted, how long does that usually take? And does this mean that if someone clicks on a link on Google to it, the story won't come up?
My friend who I based the story on found it and is feeling very hurt right now, so I want it deleted fully.
I have no clue what I was thinking when writing and posting it.

It will be gone, so Google won't call it up. You shouldn't beat yourself up, we all use elements from our life in stories. Yeah, that's what I thought. If the story is deleted, then the link on Google shouldn't work. At least then she can always say (if anyone would ask) that some idiot stole her text for personal use, but at least the story won't be there.
