Hi everyone. I have a dedicated troll. He's figured out how to one star bomb my stories repeatedly. I don't know if he uses multiple computers, or if he is clever with his own computer, but he does it. It's more times than a few which could be explained away by his mobile phone, computer, and iPad. Anyway the point is that he does it and all my scores are eroding downward. It began when I deleted his comments (left anonymously, but his writing style is distinctive). He re-posted them and I deleted them again. This went on repeatedly until I shut off anonymous comments (for all of my stories). That's when the repeated one star bombs began. They were cleared when the last contest ended, but he just began again at his task.

He actually has a name, Adverbly, but his comments are always anonymous. Now he's doing the same (one star bombing stories into oblivion) to two of my friends on Literotica, Peter_Cleveland and LegsFeetToes. Their crime was to criticize his comments left on my stories. Does anyone know if anything can be done? Thank you in advance, JB Edwards

Message Laurel and ask her for a sweep of your stories.

Thank you both. Do you know how to message Laurel? I'm kind of unsophisticated when it comes to such things

Use the envelope icon at the top right of this screen, and start a new conversation. List "Laurel" as the recipient, and tell her pretty much what you told us.

If you expect to hear back from her, then you may need to enable private messages in your profile.

If he's dedicated enough to replace his bombs after they were swept the first time, he's just going to do it again. You're going to get caught in an endless game of whack-a-mole. Requesting a sweep may actually keep him engaged longer by shortening the timeframe to when he's paying more attention.

It's just something that happens, and there's basically no way to prevent it from happening. All you can do is clean up after the fact. My advice is to request a sweep if you want, but I wouldn't keep doing it. If most/all of the bombs vanished during contest sweeps, then the way it's being done isn't sophisticated, and that will happen every time a sweep runs through. If he's doing it to multiple people, then he's creating additional red flags that will make removal of the votes even more likely.

Someone so thin-skinned and reactionary will likely find new villain after new villain, and eventually, you will drop off his priority list in favor of the newer evils he's punishing.

Sorry about that. People can just be crap. Send a message to Laurel per Voboy's instructions.

This sounds right. Thank you! ~~JB

All good advice and I wish you a resolution.

Not a criticism, but rather an open letter to all, it’s generally better not to either speculate as to how trolls circumvent the site’s defences or to even mention that a troll has managed to upset you. The first gives any troll how-to hints and the second lets him know that he’s succeeded. Like a toddler spouting potty words, trolls are looking for attention. Acknowledge them and they smile…

Again, good luck. We’ve all been there.

I made this list for myself some years ago, and think it still applies:
----------------------------------
The only way to deal with pests, trolls, flamers, and other trouble makers in Forums, Story Comments, or Chat is to ignore them.

Do not reply to them.

Do not respond to them.

Do not try to refute them.

Do not try to convert them.

Do not try to answer them.

Do not try to reason with them.

In other words, ignore them completely. They will eventually tire of the game and go away. Put them on your Ignore List or kill-file if you want, but shunning is the best remedy.

I like your six commandments. I don't know what an Ignore list or a kill-file, assuming they refer to something tech, and not just ignoring the asshole? It doesn't matter though; your six commandments say it all! Thank you, JBE

Literotica forums have an Ignore feature; click on the users name and you will see a choice to Ignore them. Their posts will not show up in forum threads, nor will you receive p.m.'s from them.

I think 'kill-file' is a term left over from the days of Usenet (which evidently still exists, but have not used it in years).
