Debating on calling in work and telling them I can't come in

Being the bad influence that I am...

...I say go for it.

But you do know that it'll only make you want to play hooky on Tuesday too?

hooking

it's an addictive habit.

first it's one day then the next. before you know it ur unemployed, have a beer gut (ever see the female beer gut *shudders*) and are eating the carpet critters....here kitty kitty kitty....

or so i've been told

Your right, it would. I think I may call in, regardless. I don't have to be in until 4:15, so I have time to think it over.

I suppose I need to be the voice of responsiblity here.

If you are considering just taking a day off because you feel like it, then don't.

You don't live and work in a vacuum. If you call in "sick" then your boss has to call in someone else on short notice to take your place, or your co-workers have to work harder for the same pay to fill the gap. Your day of leisure cost others in extra work, and/or disruption of plans that have to be canceled to work in your place.

In addition to the obvious effects on your boss and co-workers, there is the long-term effect of "proving" you can't be relied upon to be when and where you have committed to be.

Many moons ago, Mark Twain (?) wrote a piece entitled "if you work for a man, then work for that man." I've never been able to find it on the web or in a book of quotations, but I would love to be able to so I can print it and have in on my wall for inspiration.

If you're actually sick, then that's a different story -- being hung-over doesn't count in this context -- then it's a matter of determining if you are too sick to function efficiently, are liable to get sicker, or may be contagious. All of those are reasons to "call-in."

If you are thinking of "calling-in" because you hate your job, then do your boss the courtesy of quitting and go nsearch of a job you like.

Poor chef. Hope you're feeling better!

That happened to me once- I think getting sick has to do with the stress of a major change in your life, like a new job. Day one of a new job I came down with a sore throat and the next morning I was at a clinic for strep. I tried to go to work anyway, since it was only day 2 of my employment. I made it about 2 hours before I felt so horrible I had to go home anyway.

Stay home if you're sick. No one wants to catch anything from you.

Day off?

or should i say...call in sick .

i have not had a sick day in years. i drag my butt in to work every day no matter how i feel unless i have a migrane or flu which i have not had in years either.
even when i know it will be muggy and hot ( i am talking 40 degrees over the outside temps here) i still drag myself in.
of course, i cant afford to miss a days pay either.
they know me at work that if i do call in, it has to be pretty bad.

Thanks for the help. I decided that I'm gonna go today. Hell, I'm 22. Time to take some responsibility for myself.

Considering you just started that job in the last two weeks...good idea.

Take it from someone who wishes she had a job to go to... on that note, back to beating the pavement. Who would have thought having a college degree could put you at a disadvantage..."I'm sorry, your just overqualified"

:(
Job hunt not going well?

Maybe if you're overqualified for the jobs you are trying for, you're setting your sights too low? Just a thought.

Yes, I thought of that as well. I'm still waiting for a call back on a job that I think I have a good shot at...I should know something by Wednesday...till then, I'll keep looking.

I don't know Nasty well enough to say get your lazy ass to work and do what you're paid to do. You, on the other hand...

I wish my mother had a little Cheyenne when she was my age, her life would have been so much easier. We wouldn't have had to run from my home state.

Oh well, at least I finally have someone to tell me that not working is lazy and it's better to save than spend.

*sniff*- She's listening, she's really listening!

:) You HAVE been listening all this time, haven't you?

How could I not listen to someone as wise and intelligent as you Cheyenne?
Now if only I could get Magic to stop doing strange things I'd honor you as an all-knowing avatar of Prometheus. (I believe his name means 'foresight')

Ya, but...
