Calls for an end to the death penalty in the US.

But if a person who is sentenced to life without parole kills another human being in prison, or he/she attempts escape, the inmate will have both arms and legs removed. Cruel and unusual punishment?

I do agree with the end of the death penalty, as you are well aware.

As for the other, yes, it is cruel and unusual punishment.

So these killers should be released after 5 years and given 5 acres and a mule? Even after they kill again? and again? And you ask why I'm not a democrat.

Darn my reading skills. I read and reread this thread and I still can't find where lavender mentioned a mule, nor can I find the bit where she proclaimed herself official spokesperson for all things Democrat. I need glasses, I guess...

I read Writerdom's and AJ's posts and don't wanna be a Republican anymore.

I read everybody else's posts and don't think I can turn Democrat and be honest with myself.

I read UncleBill's post's and am reminded that the Libertarians never win any elections.

I'm just a little dinghy floating on sea of political turmoil....

SOS...

Yeah, let have more of a Compassionate conservative argument since she is avoiding the issues. So should someone sentenced to life without parole be allowed to vote?

Since she feels that a killer sentenced to life for murder should be excused for future murders.

1) Convicted felons do not have the right to vote. Where on earth are you getting this idea?

2) Prisons deal with murders of fellow inmates already. Lifers can still get solitary, for indefinite periods. Easier and not nearly as barbaric/arcane/absurd as slicing off limbs.

hahaha.... I stand corrected..... WD... in an earlier thread, I asked you how you get away with using so much sarcasm....

Now I see that you DON'T get away with it.... you get tarred and feathered by people who don't recognize sarcasm....

hang in there....

well......I do hope WD you realize that if the arms and legs are amputated...YOUR tax dollars will go to pay nurses to feed the inmates?...I dont see any other way it could be accomplished.

btw....IT IS A BARBARIC IDEA....sarcasm or not.

sarcasm? the oil post perhaps. but really, if
Gore was President, and he spared McVeigh, then later McVeigh killed someone in prison or attempted escape, how it de-limbing cruel and unusual??

You've convinced me, WD, with your rational, well-articulated arguments. But I say we take the idea one step further. Why don't we work on preventing violent crimes? We can hook up felons to chairs, subjecting them to massive doses of violent images, while we simultaneously peirce them with electric shocks. The resulting Pavlovian effect will surely curb their violent outbursts. And weighing the reduction in crime against the short term discomfort of the treatment, surely such a program wouldn't be considered cruel or unusual.

Actually, I've never seen it. Read it twice, though. Didn't realize there was a freaking glossary at the end until my first time through.

...Wait. I mean, what are you talking about? The de-violencing program was my own idea. Honest. Criminals are sub-human, you see, and deserve to be treated as such. As long as we don't kill them, of course.

Sure. Seems like a fair compromise. You get to inflict the cruelty on another human that you seem to yearn for, yet we the taxpayers are not subsidizing murder. So IF someone is in prison for life and IF that person escapes and IF we recapture that person, THEN we cut their arms and legs off. And the government will even make tapes of it so you and yours can watch it in your living room with a bowl of popcorn. Yippee kie yie yay.

Damn my eyes! I missed that lavender saying that one too! That's it, I'm calling in that reading glasses prescription...

So you think a guilty murderer who attempts escape deserves mercy when my amendment has given him a new lease on life and the opportunity to expire all options to prove his is innocent? And so he kills a family of four sleeping comfortably in their suburban home. He's killed women and children twice and I'm supposed to grieve over the loss of his arms and legs.. he had two chances.. maybe you need to talk to a few victims.

I do?! Now I'm totally losing it. Not only can I not read lavender's posts, I can't even read my own!

WOW...talk about believeing what you want to believe...even when the writeing is contrary to what you think........

Mischka, this is totally unrelated, really, but reminded me of a similar story.

There was a famous psychological study that got subjects to administer 'electric shocks' to other people to study punishment in learning. Of course the whole thing was rigged, but it was fascinating to see how far the everyday, average person would go. Here's a link in case anyone wants to read a summary.

Here baby! Here's a preserver......... Now catch....

Denounce politics...... come with me, and just simply be.....

a human. :)

You are obviously a damn fine one at that, if you are coming to terms with the fact that neither side has it all figured out fairly, and morally.

PC, you seem like more of a conservative, (not in republican political terms, but in that you are not wasteful, wanton, and excessive....but with the later...except for the wanting of sex!)
grass roots kind of man.

All I can say is that it doesn't bother me in the least that I don't claim allegience to either.
If a candidate runs that I think is worth something then I'd vote for them. Too bad that only happens in a blue moon. Wait. It's never happend. Shame.
Ahhh hell, I am just a good ole American and that's good enough for me. :)

now he sings like Elton John...

"someone saved my life tonight, sugarbear..."

Gawd DAMN I'm talented.

I'm a mixed bag my five-phalanged fishy.

I think I'm getting more liberal. I want to come to O-hi-o and smoke a bongload with you, and take back some good seeds to the California sun and cultivate them.

On the other hand I wish I was like Elvis and could shoot my TV with a .357 magnum when it pisses me off.

Probably just about every time Hillary Clinton or Jerry Falwell show up.

What does that make me....confused?

Laurel's probably right.

I don't know, but the music sure is a nice touch.....

But to me, that makes you exciting!

I am gonna toke one for you, and rub my clit while singing God Bless America! while thinking of you, shooting your load at the TV with a pissy look on your face, PC.

What kinds of seeds do you want?
